Gearbox grinds because some are shitty made. You can install dog or cat or bottle of bear instead of knob and results will be the same. After 80pages on this forum and hundreds on others conclusion should be clear. ;)

Yup ! Shift knob is not going to change chit 2nd gear syncronizers....

So after autocross this weekend and me grinding into 2nd every single damn time with this car i'm really not happy with this vehicle. However the other guy in the 19 type r had zero 2nd gear grinds...

He drove my 18 and grinded 2nd immediately ! I drove his 19 and didn't get a 2nd gear grind. He has about 1500 miles on his 19 and i have just over 5k on my 19.

Makes you really think it was a quality control issue ?

I've had the grind twice this week so far. I'm going to schedule another visit to the Dealer. This will be number 3 for the same issue. A call to Honda USA is warranted as well. Here's another video:

Yeah, I called Honda about my 2018 CTR crunching 1-->2 gears and they referred me back to the "could not replicate problem" dealer. Hope you have better luck than me.

I once took my VW R32 for service at a dealer and got the could replicate the problem answer. You know what I did? I told the service advisor to call the mechanic that could'nt replicate the problem. He came out, rode with me and heard the issue, since they dont know wtf it was he blamed it on the mods. I would recommend you telling the mechanic that cant replicate the issue to ride with you.

My dealership (Honda of Fishers) has been great for me. My 2nd gear crunch seems to have gone away, but as soon as I came into the dealership with the issue, they had then shop foreman ride with me, and then I let him drive it. Couldn't replicate it and it went away after about 7 grinds. If your Type R is brand spanking new, give it at least 1500 miles. Those transmissions gotta break in, and thats what I think mine did.

Have about 13K miles on mine, I still encounter the grinding every once in a while, particularly on cold days where the car hasn't warmed up all the way.

I have about 28k on mine now, has always ground into 2nd really, but it's eased up in the last 9k. Really I can tell it only grinds if the engine is pitched or at a funny yaw angle, so it happens usually if I'm accelerating in 1st hard, in a turn, and go for 2nd. Provided I'm not asking the car to blast into 2nd when it's squatting because I've floored it, I've noticed the grind has essentially gone away.

Lockouts when downshifting or moving to 4th seem much less prevalent after almost 30k miles as well.

How many miles do you have on the current MTF fill?

Yes, this is how I feel mine works too in regards to crunchy seconds. It seems like when I’m turning in particular or if I’m at some specific RPM the notchiness is double the usual. Grinding... not sure.

Original MTF fill, bought car last march, so a little less than a year on it. Once I realized I could avoid the grind by amending my behavior I've really only had it in fits of pique, and really the feel of the shifter is still generally butter so I've not even considered switching.

I was in for some service and asked my service adviser to call the Honda tech line and complain about the transmission again. He mentioned that they know something is up but do not have an official response yet. Take that for what you will, but he has been very honest with me over the years. I will just keep complaining every time I am in for warranty work.

1. Transmission grind/rough gear - replaced the oem fluid. Got better but still rough into even gears, grinds into 2nd when shifted fast. I think it is the linkage for the even gears.
2. Hood scoop sunk. Replaced but it appears to be happening again.
3. The hatch cargo cover is pulling away from the sides. New parts ordered.

I have a few rattles that do not have a tsb. The ac compressor is getting rather loud, I will wait for spring summer to bring that up. I hate taking my car into the dealership, so I wait for a TSB or when other work is being done to minimize the disruption.
