Not sure if this is an actual issue or not but it's been raining a bunch where I live and I've been using my wipers. We all know the wipers have a slow, medium and fast speed right? Well here's my problem...70% of the time my slow setting goes as fast as the medium setting. So it seems I have medium, medium and fast. But sometimes, very rarely it actually goes as slow as it is supposed to...Should I have my Honda dealer check this out? I've only had the car for a year and it only has 1500 miles on it. I baby it. Would suck if there is some issue after all the car I've given it.

On the first setting, it's intermittent. You can control how often the wipers go by twisting the knob.

Doesn't the Type R have variable intermittent wipers?

Well, I live in Phoenix. Rain? I change the blades every year on the one day it rains, so wouldn’t know about the wiper speed! Seriously, I have never turned them on.

It's weird, I was using the wipers a lot in the recent California rains and the "highest" intermittent setting is not consistent - like you it is at first the exact same rate as the medium setting (no pauses), then some time later it is way slower like midway within intermittent. This is something I thought would be hardwired in the wiper control circuit and not controlled by software that could glitch out.

This is actually a feature of variable intermittent wipers. It's based on vehicle speed. When you're not traveling as fast, they don't need to clear as often. I think it does it at every intermittent setting but it's only really noticeable when set on the highest intermittent setting since it is basically not intermittent while the car is moving.

My understanding is that "variable" means multiple settings within the stepped range vs. the LX that only has "two-speed" intermittent. I have not seen anywhere that says the Civic has speed-sensitive wipers, where have you seen that? In the manual it only specifies a strict delay and nothing about speed:
"When you move the lever to the INT position, the wipers operate based on the delay adjustment.
Rotate the adjustment ring to adjust the wiper delay."

From the Owner's Manual (p187)

"Models with intermittent time adjustment ring
If the vehicle speeds up while the wipers are operating intermittently, the length of the wipe interval shortens.
When the vehicle speeds up, the wiper operation's shortest delay setting and the LO setting become the same."

The Type R has the adjustment ring.

Cool, didn't see that section.
