I saw this on the BBC News. Wonder how that will impact CTR prices here in the US. Also, sorry to the folks in the UK affected by this.

The carmaker is set to announce the closure of its Swindon plant in 2022, jeopardising 3,500 jobs, sources say.

We own the last generation of Civic Type R that will come from Swindon. I may have to pick up a little Union Jack badge now. EU has a free trade agreement with Japan and many Honda suppliers are in the EU - now that UK isn't going to be EU, it makes sense for Honda to move out. Swindon voted leave, so too bad for them.

Anyone think we'll start to see quality issues from workers at a factory on it's way out?

If CTR goes back to Japan for production, color me happy.

I have a feeling that something will happen wrt Brexit. UK economy was doing extremely well prior to the whole Brexit fiasco. It was completely motivated by immigration fear mongering. Their currency has depreciated by 15% vs the euro and it isn't even done yet. They may come to their senses.

It's worth noting that all the Civic hatchbacks come out of that plant, not just the Type R models.

There's quite a few models that the US doesn't see that come out of the plant also, mainly the Diesel platforms from what it looks like. Closing the Swindon plant is going to ripple across a few products in Honda's line-up.

I am interested in how they are going to handle this change, and if the CTR is going to be able to come to the US (tariffs, bleah) if it is going to be re-set up to be made in Japan.

That’s a good point.

Also, as the BBC article mentioned, there has to be a ton of UK-based suppliers who’re gonna get screwed because of this.

Wouldn't a Japanese built CTR cost more ??
I'm willing to bet it would, especially with the tariff situation coming into play. Also willing to bet it would be an even more well built car as far as fit and finish. A part of me wishes all this stuff was already in the past and all our CTRs were built in Japan in the first place.

It would be a shame if this caused them to decide to not ship to America due to the cost, especially if they see no profit in it. We might be seeing the only generation of CTR in America, or even the last Type R here of any model. Everyone better hang on to theirs!

Does this mean a potential for insane resale value....??

Playing devil's advocate here, if they move production to Japan and all of the little problems we are seeing with the CTR now go away, the UK CTRs may end up being the black sheep of the bunch. The opposite could happen as well. In my non expert opinion I'd say this may not end up being a big deal by the time everything is transitioned.

According to the article Brexit is only one of the reasons for the closure. Sounds like Honda is going to move all of the production back to Japan where the Type R was originally being made, quality should def go up.
