I live in Greene about 20ish mins from cville, I'm mainly looking for 2019 for MSRP. I believe I can get a black one for MSRP but its a month or more wait from a dealership i know the manager at. I've checked 2 dealerships around me with ones actually in stock and both have tried to charge 5k over MSRP so I may just have to wait till this dealership gets theirs in. I would love to find one before that though.
Austin, for your local dealers that have 5k over, you may want to just go in and offer MSRP. My CTR was priced at 10k over and I offered MSRP and the sales guy laughed and said he would try. Sure enough the sales manager needed to move the car and I got it for MSRP. Let us know when you get one and maybe you can meet up at Cars and Coffee in Richmond. Here are 2 dealers that sell their CTRs at MSRP:
Colonial Honda, Colonial Heights, Va. Jimmy Monger 804-414-1900
Duncans Honda, Christiansburg, Va. Leo 540-381-3200

CarGurus has 500 listings for 2019s today. Again, it’s a relative measure but that’s the first time it hit 500. Looking at SoCal inventory this past month; it isn’t moving very quickly. I think it is just a matter of time now before we get to MSRP or lower as shipments keep arriving and cars continue to sit on lots longer and longer.

Sounds good man! Thank you for your help, I checked inventory on the honda website and don't see any black in stock, but I'll call and see if they plan to get any in. Anyone know how long it takes for a dealership to get one if they order it?

EDIT: Are you guys also paying MSRP + Destination charge? or flat out MSRP

Check Zimbrick Honda in Wisconsin. I saw last week they had a black one on the lot. Ask for Jared, I bought my CW from him and I will be shipping it this week! I paid MSRP.

My first post here. I have been lurking for a while. I had the chance to drive my first CTR this weekend and I was impressed. On the spur of the moment I decided I really wanted one and started talking to some dealers. Anyways, the point is that after I came back to my senses I realized I cannot pull this off (the purchase) since I will be traveling a lot for the next few months (June is my target). In any case I was able to find an MSRP deal in central FL for a red one. I do not know if it appropriate to post here or not since I am not affiliated to that dealership in any way. But if somebody wants a red CTR at MSRP you can PM me (or I can put it here if that is ok - since I am new I do not know that and do not want to piss anybody off with my first post :) )

Don't even waste your time folks. I wasted 2+ hrs. of my life and couldn't get a deal with this guy. Kept going up and down. He will get you into the dealer and then add an ADM. Then when you walk out, the numbers game will begin. The alarm and all those other add-ons will be $3K. Those are sunk costs and can't be removed from the vehicle. You are not walking out that dealer without spending $44K+ plus tax, license, etc. Expect to pay almost $50K OTD. He might get mad after reading this post, but who cares. The floor manager is also a goof. It's a Honda Civic Type R not a Lamborghini dude! Keep the car because you don't really want to sell. I think I already posted on this topic a few pages ago.

BTW - everyone that has posted that they paid MSRP or $1500 over stick forgot to mention the dealer had add-ons. It's not the complete story and MSRP is not happening in SoCal. You are buying something in addition to MSRP, whether it's accessories, a warranty, or other. I've never walked into a dealer in the last 1.5 years in Socal and heard MSRP. No further negotiations needed. Fat chance!

I love the line "how do I earn your business?" Give me a break Smokie & the Bandit (one sales manager I encountered in Hollywood who resembled a cross between Yosemite Sam and Burt Reynolds). Will you take $48K OTD. Haha... I"m out of here.

When someone can buy below MSRP on this thread, please post. I'm dying to see a clear contract with all the numbers shown. Some people have posted in the past, but it was a half page and when I went to that dealer, it wasn't MSRP at all. Sales people lurking in this post no doubt. Sharks.
Stop playing by their rules. I set foot in two dealerships. The first was a complete waste of time, and started me down the road of many hours wasted calling every dealership from the north to south end of SoCal after finding this thread. My local dealer, Valley Hi Honda, was the first. Fuck that place and the entire management chain in charge of sales. Carson was the last, and I had a deal worked out long before starting the 1:45 minute drive through traffic on Valentines Day.

As you pointed out, these sharks have a consistent MO. They all say that these cars are rare and that the markup is warranted, and that every dealership is asking for the same markup they are. In a word, bullshit. Damn near every dealer in California has at least one of these cars, and they aren't selling well. I'm a guy with a short temper and don't mind telling people that they are full of it. I enjoy capitalism and I refuse to pay something for nothing. I told each dealership the same thing: "I will pay for a product; add any accessories you want, but I won't deal with a markup". Any time I got the "come in and make a deal" speel I told them I wanted an email with the complete contract price in place before I would waste my time driving.. Within one call by me and their return BS followup calls, this mentality weeded out every dealership I called. As I said before, I had given up on a CTR until a single internet sales guy at Carson called me back damn near two months later. I accepted the extended warranty, but it was not part of the agreement I had worked out beforehand. The only stipulation in place for my deal was that it would be financed. Fine by me, there's no early payoff penalty. The finance guy tried tacking on a lojack under the radar and I called him on it. Reference short temper above :)

My out the door was MSRP of 36,595.00 + 85.00 document processing + 2842.70 tax + 30.00 electronic registration + 2400 warranty (7 year/100k) + 237.00 license fees + 266.00 Registration/Title fee + 8.75 tire fee (WTF is that???). Grand total of 42464.45

For what it's worth, the best I could get over the phone was 3k over MSRP from Lancaster, and the worst was Moss Bros at 15k over. Even Galpin, who in this thread had previously sold at MSRP on a 2018 gave me the run around and wouldn't go lower than 5k. For all I know Carson is just as bad as the rest on any given day for a walk in; they had 6k markup on the sign when I got there. All I can say is to reiterate: stop playing by their rules. People settling for markups are just reinforcing the sharks. People showing up in person without a deal worked out are just proving that they really want the car, and the sharks are going to jump at the chance of making more money. Fuck the sharks.

You got a great deal. It would be better if you bought the extended warranty from Saccucci Honda, $800/$100 deductible or $905/$0 deductible 7yrs/100k. From what I’ve read on this forum you can cancel and get a refund, then buy it elsewhere.

Basically, your presence is your leverage. Just you being at the store means business, they know you're in the market to buy one, if you won't buy from them, you'll definitely buy somewhere elsewhere and lose business with them which they don't want. If the price sounds reasonable and the sales managers aren't asshats about milking the gross, then they'll sell the CTR. For example, I sell a CTR for 1k over stick but if you buy GAP and extended warranty, they'll do the deal because it balances out.

Good looking out. As soon as I get the paperwork for the extended warranty I'll cancel and search for cheaper. I've been having serious doubts about additional warranty anyways now that I've started ordering parts for the car.

Works both ways. After all the people I talked to, I had vary little interest in dealing with the folks who insisted on me showing up in person to talk reasonable numbers. Based on your previous posts I could never pin down where you worked, but I called every dealership near where I thought you were and got the same bullshit runaround. I was always upfront about my expectations, distance, and willingness to immediately travel given the right deal. Oddly enough, the phone calls stopped real quick once folks figured out I wasn't bullshitting on my end.

Insisting on GAP and warranty to sell VS 1k over MSRP is exactly the kind of shark mentality that junktea1 pointed out. There shouldn't be a "balances out" in the equation. This isn't some high end unobtanium car, it's a factory hopped up civic that is available at every dealership one wishes to visit. You aren't helping.

I agree with everything you said. It's ashame, nobody should have to go through all this hassle just to purchase a vehicle. It's really atrocious how these dealerships have been acting with selling the Type R. The problem is people mistakenly view the Type R as something they need to have rather than a luxury and take whatever deal the dealer throws at them because they're afraid of missing out on the opportunity of purchasing one. It's like they're panicking when they are very much available even though you might have to have yours shipped or travel for a good deal. I don't see the Type R going anywhere as it's a hot seller for Honda. There's no need to rush and give into the dealer's BS.

Since nobody really objected...

Space Coast Honda in Cocoa, FL has a red CTR that will let go at MSRP (ask for MJ). Hopefully it will help somebody here!

Never insisted on forcing people to buy those optional features, I know several dealers that force it on you to purchase it with the car. I called around and emailed around and got 4-6k ADM plus the accessories, I knew what I was getting myself into since this was in early december when the 2019's were coming out and I had my eyes set for the Sonic Grey color. Only 3 dealerships had the color in stock and they all gave me that outrageous price. It wasn't until I went to the store and I bought the SGP only a little of 1k over sticker including accessories. Every store is going to have ADM plus accessories. Dealerships are a business, not a Non-Profit Organization. It depends on the inventory of the dealership and the General Manager on what they want to sell the CTR for because they can let is sit there forever but eventually someone will buy it. That is why dealerships markup the CTR's so high, they know they will not get that price but they get the chance to negotiate from a higher standpoint. As long as you are happy with the car and happy with the price, then there is nothing to regret about.

I did a quick search in close vicinity to where I am and there are at least 7 brand new 2019 CTR’s sitting on the dealers lots, and from what I’ve seen on the forums these dealers are selling at MSRP. Midwest mentality is different from other areas I guess.
