I received the Honda recall letter a month ago. I replaced the oil back in September but did not put in much miles since. MM shows 60%. I will wait to do the recall, maybe when oil life is 20-30% left.

I understand the recall consists of oil change, software update, replace climate control unit. I understand why the oil change but can someone please explain how the other 2 items help to resolve the issue? Does This recall eliminate the oil dilution?

The recall does not eliminate the fuel dilution, and Honda cannot possibly get rid of it 100%. All direct injection engines have a bit of fuel dilution because of their technology, and whatever fuel that gets into the oil will be burned off by PCV.
And the climate control update is to keep the cooling fans off until engine is warm. Get it done ASAP imo.

Yeah, besides, who keeps cars past 60,000 miles anyway? Although it would be irritating to smell gas in the cabin for that period of time.....

I'm skeptical about this. I'd expect the coolant thermostat to be closed until the engine gets warm. If the thermostat is closed no coolant is flowing through the radiator. So if the radiator fan runs or doesn't run it's irrelevant if the coolant isn't flowing through the radiator.

Maybe they are blocking the operation of the fan inside the passenger compartment. Don't want to be dumping heat inside until the engine warms.

Yes thats what the new module and software update does, and that helps the engine warm more quickly

I had the a/c unit replaced and the re-program done last week. I then had intermittent heat and the car would slightly warm up then go completely cold with zero heat - this happened several times. Today I picked it up from the dealer and they said Honda came out with an updated flash and that it's fixed ( again)- the car definitely gets to operating temp much faster

Check the oil level, if it is under the small circle over the max of the dipstick you can wait until the next service, as I did.

Thanks everyone for this info. I am looking at a 2018 civic touring that has this engine and it has this recall. I’m wondering if I should take a chance or simply buy something else. I wanted Honda “for their quality “ but not sure now. I could only find a few posts stating they “think” the recall has fixed it but the cars seems to run the same. Maybe it’s too early and I should wait for more posts. ( around oil still smelling, inside their car still smelling of gas, their civic simply stopping son the highway). Thoughts?

My personal opinion ? I’m leasing mine for 3 years and then turning it back in. This works fine for me. With this dilution issue I would be wary of buying a car with this engine and wanting to keep it and get 200k miles out of it - not sure anyone really knows how it will effect longevity .
