Figured this was the best section to ask about the Hankook RS4. Long story short, having more kids equals out to having less money for tires for me. I went through two and half sets of RE71R last year and that just won’t fly this year. I was looking at the Hankook RS4 as they have the reputation of wearing very well. I’ve read reviews but wanted to see if anyone here had first hand experience. Please no street driving experience just track and autocross. I’m looking at doing 10-14 autocross events, a few TNiA and 3-4 Time Trial events this season.

EDIT: Also do the RS4 run as wide as they say? According to Tire Rack a 235/40-18 RS4 is a wide as a 245/40-18 RE71R

No first hand experience, but I think people who had it said its better trackday tires than autoX tire. Doesn't have the outright pace of the RE71R or Rival S 1.5s, but more consistent over a session on the track.

Have you considered dropping to 17s? I know, spend more up front, but saves like $180 per set of tires.

I mean the RS4 will definitely work, and might cost ~$1 less per run, but depending on how competitive you are it may not be worth it. They're definitely slower than the RE / Rival.

I have considered dropping to 17 but I have the light weight 18s and I didn’t recall the price difference being terribly dramatic. I’m not particularly competitive in my local autocross which is pretty heavy with nationally competitive guys. I’ve been much more competitive in time trial which eats up RE71R. That said maybe I will try and put my 18s up for sale...obviously due to the life changes ahead of me I many be being optimistic. Perhaps I’d be better off with the faster tire and doing less events.
