I love it
Doesn't work maybe 1 in 50 times
I'll take life not being perfect for the 49 times it's super convenient.

I swear some of you new buyers of Honda's should just get a basic ass early 90's civic. "If it's not perfected I'd rather not have it!!!" GTFOH.
I agree, your answer explains 99% of users on this forum

Learned a lot from this thread, I guess it's my Honda Detachable keyring and the big-ass bunch of keys I carry around with it, I'll try separating the fob and see what happens, I've been getting about a 50% beep-beep-beep on walkaways, maybe try one of the fabric fobs and carry my keys in another pocket. Like the feature, hopefully this will make it work better, interference from keys & rings, who knew?:dunno::goodpost:

If you have any metal up against your key fob, your going to get failures. Try standing there and touching the car lightly until it beeps. You then become an extension of the antenna. Its far from a perfect system, but I like it. If I walk away from the car forgetting to lock it, it will either lock itself, or beep, beep, beep, to remind me to lock it.

I'm sorry for those who have issues, but I'm happy it works great for me. I'm not much of a masochist and I hate little annoyances in life, so I wouldn't be using this function for almost a year now if it didn't work. The doors can be locked in several other ways, so it's just great to show your mom how you can lock your car with no hands.:lock: ( this icon is perfect here )

Knowing how it works (just in general) I'm surprised it is as reliable as it is. Detecting how far the key fob is from a sheet metal car body based on radio signals and regardless of the surrounding stuff, is not so trivial technology. And it has additional requirements related to security. I haven't tried any other cars with the walk away locking feature, but I would be surprised if it could work much better even on luxury cars. To make it more bulletproof you would probably need to put more transceivers in the car at various locations, which costs money.

I have a brand new 2019 Civic Sport and I have activated the "walk-away" locking feature (it is disabled by default). I find that, about 30% of the time, it fails and gives me a series of fast beeps to alert me to that fact. I then have to use the key fob to manually lock the car. Anyone else experiencing this?
I carry mine like this alone in my front pocket and my issues are random. Sometimes it works perfectly others it never works. I have noticed that when carrying passengers if they close their doors after you’ve walked away it won’t lock.

I only have a small Gerber multitool on a ring with my FOB and it only fails to autolock maybe 1 in 30. The one thing that gets it EVERY time is when my teenage son is slow getting out of the car and then I am too far from the car when he finally closes the door. I mock him appropriately :)

Otherwise, I had my car for a week, turned on the proximity system and never looked back. It is still far more convenient than not. Although of all the proximity features, the sensors in the door handles are the most convenient. I just wish they had them in the rear door handles too.

I had this metal Ghostbusters keychain on my ring. I have removed it and will see if that helps. Thanks, everyone! Also, for the record, I had a 1993 Honda Civic...and if people are not going to post questions about little annoyances, then what is the point of this forum other than posting "Look at me and my car" posts? We should all be eager to help each other out and share information and experiences.

I've been dealing with this for well over a year. I've tested both key fobs (nothing attached them) and even held the key out in the open and it still happens. Took it to the dealer and of course they never found an issue and gave me some spiel about wireless signal interference (which I'm not arguing but how how often it happens doesn't quite fit). Then over the summer, I has zero issues for months until about November. Not sure if it's related to the cold temperatures or just coincidence. Occasionally I do get the multiple chirp when getting into the vehicle too but hasn't affected starting it.

I disabled mine because it only worked about half the time, no matter what tried. People will say "stand closer to the car for a second", or "you're not walking away fast enough" or "you're walking away too fast" or "your phone is interfering with the signal" or "your key fob battery is dying" or "you need to do a hand stand and click your heels while blowing spit bubbles".... non of it helped and I grew to accept the fact that it just doesn't work very well. I use the button on the handle to lock it, and open / unlock the car by grabbing the door handle and I still don't have to touch my key fob.

how many of you with this issue have your key in the same pocket as your phone. I know for a fact if the key is on the wrong side of my phone in the pocket, the unlock or autolock will not work as the signal is blocked by the phone.

I don't have this thing enabled on my car, but it will intermittently lock itself. Sometimes I'm sitting in the car waiting for my wife to come out of the store and it will decide to lock the doors on its own. Sometimes I will put it in the garage and next morning it is locked. Sometimes I am washing the car and it decides to lock itself. There is no consistency to this. It may happen at any time depending on its mood. I hate this thing!

Me, my BF and my brother in law all had the same issue with the unreliable walk away locking, the fast beeps, etc. ALL solved by taking key fobs off our key rings. I keep mine in my pocket (not with my phone) and my other keys stay either on my belt loop or in my satchel i carry with me most places. Only way it'll malfunction now is if I shut the door and sprint away from the car too fast or if the door isn't properly closed.
