Hi guys, I have deep scratches on my paint that I would like to fix. I plan to use the 2 oz. (is this enough?) primer, base coat, and clear coat brush bottles from Automotive Touchup. I’d like to know if what I list below is the correct way of doing it before I mess up the paint even more. Of course, I’ll wash and clay my car beforehand.

The first set of scratches is on my rear fender panel and rear bumper: https://imgur.com/a/jnibcy3. Some of them are down to what I assume is the primer, and some go through to the metal and have rusted. I plan to:

  1. Wet sand the scratches with 1000 grit sandpaper (too high grit?)

  2. Apply 3 coats of primer with 30 minutes in between each coating

  3. Sand it down with 1000 grit sandpaper again about 1 hour after

  4. Put on 3-5 layers (or more, so that the touchup area is higher than the rest of the panel) of the base coat with 30 minutes in between each coating (Should I use a toothpick or something instead of the brush?)

  5. Use M105 compound with my DA polisher on it after 1 hour

  6. Apply 3 coats of clear coat with 30 minutes in between each coating

  7. M105 + DA polisher after 1 hour

  8. M205 + DA polisher

The second set of scratches is on my front bumper, all the way down to the plastic: https://imgur.com/a/Yogt9ky. I plan to use the same method outlined above.

The third set of scratches is on my rear bumper: https://imgur.com/a/qkNjzqS. I plan to clay it first then follow the same method above if there are scratches down to the paint. However, I don’t know what to do with the scratches on the glossy black plastic. Is it still possible to use the DA polisher? Or should I use sandpaper?

Also, are the drying intervals between each coat/sanding enough? Or should I wait longer? There's no rush since the car is garaged and not daily driven -- I could do this over the course of several days.

Thanks.
