I have put some money down on a 2019 Ralley Red Coupe. I do not yet have the car in the driveway. I should have it next month. I have been thinking about exactly "what do do" as far as modifications. Don't laugh ... but ... I am honestly thinking about just enjoying the car in stock form. Are there folks here on the forum who do the same? I feel a bit like the deck is stacked. Modding is not what it used to be and I have been doing so since 2001 with no less than 4 different cars. You are not going to get true real world gains on the Si unless you are all "in". The car does all that it should right from the factory. There are no obvious omissions or "must have's"... all dollars spent on modding eventually are lost dollars since you eventually move onto the next car.

Allow me to offer a biased but fact based response...

For $449 you can purchase a Ktuner V1.2 with our TSP Stage 1 tune for the Si included at no additional cost.

http://twostepperformance.com/ktuner-llc-ktunerflash-v1-2-tuning-package/
http://twostepperformance.com/tsp-stage-1-tune-for-2017-honda-civic-si/

Gains to be had are as follows:
182whp / 206tq - Factory Calibration
237whp / 281tq - TSP Stage 1 Tune

55whp / 75 ft lbs of torque gained, which comes to $8.16 per horsepower. That is not hard to justify for someone that is looking to increase the performance of their vehicle. In regards to "lost dollars", a used Ktuner V1.2 with our tune would likely easily sell for $399 on the secondary market, they hold their value very well.

Forgive me for the sales pitch, I just wanted to demonstrate the potential this platform has, with relatively little investment or effort.

Does using a K&N air filter count? Seriously the first thing I did was have the dealer install an auto-dimming rear view mirror. Wait does that count?
That's all I've done to the car for the last 53,000 miles. You get to decide if that's "modifying the car".

Same thing here. The only thing I have done to "modify" my Si is a K&N filter, wind deflectors and WeatherTec mats. Other than that I'm keeping it stock

The only thing I've done with mine is get some of that plastic colored tubing/piping you can jam in the seams around your door panels and dash. So, I think I'm unmodded. I'm still debating a Ktuner or something though... I don't have as many fast driving opportunities as I would like, and I can still get in loads of trouble in stock form. We'll see.

Iv only added a strut bar, sub frame brace, Michelin PS4s and the HFP front chin moulding. Also did the clear wrap protection and ceramic coating. I consider these upgrades, not so much modifications. Other than that I’m not really gonna alter this car any further, as it’s plenty fast enough for me and handles amazing as is

i wouldnt totally say modding is "not what it used to be"..

people still do a lot of the same shit that we were doing back in 99 with our hondas - lower, exhaust, intakes, tires, ground effects, lips kits, aftermarket spoilers..

the only difference is it was much funner and exciting back then because there was only a small subculture of import enthusiast that were doing. over the years it bwcame mainstream and everyone jumped on the bandwagon.

I bought mine in April of 2018, and other than weathertech mats, I haven't done anything. Seeing as I am not a "stoplight to stoplight" street racer, and the car is a blast to drive, and runs through the gears so earnestly, I am pretty good with it. as it sits. I wanted something fun to drive with good fuel economy, and feel like I made the right choice not to mod. Since April, and I have an 8 mile commute, with NO road trips, I have yet to see less than 33 mpg. I also have a Kawasaki ZRX1200R motorcycle, that really responds to "mods". I rode it for 3 full years before I "modded" it. That way I REALLY noticed the extra 40HP on my 1st ride. If I buy a K tuner now, it will be after the warranty.

Don't flame me but ... doing a tune is EXACTLY what Honda warned you about last October when they released the article themselves indicating that they wanted to secure LONGEVITY to the car over time and reduce "failure" ...

http://www.thedrive.com/sheetmetal/11150/honda-explains-why-the-2017-civic-si-has-only-205-hp

The LAST think I would ever do is mess with the mapping ... I would consider not a cat back for high dollar but a muffler delete for cheap and "free" sound ... allowing me to drive the car for over a decade worry free!

Sponsors come and go ... Where exactly is the guy selling Blow Off Valves?

Stock here as well other than a K&N drop in that I only run in the summer. May do tints and a HFP chin spoiler this year. Not looking at tuning anytime soon. I’d rather get summer tires first.

To echo this sentiment, once you run a KTuner, you will not ever go back to stock. The difference, even with the base tunes, is unreal. I plan on running a TSP or custom DRob tune after I upgrade the clutch (not currently slipping). But with the 19.5/23 base tune, you seriously won’t recognize it as the same car.
