Off the muscle car subject I’m sure someone ask this question why was the type r not a coupe since the Acura integra type r was . I know other manufacturers make their performance cars as sedans and four door
Hatchbacks because the don’t make coupes but honda still makes the civic coupe

I was gonna start a thread asking this same question. My guess is two things. The added pillar in between the doors gave the car better rigidness and stability for racing. And on the domestic side 4 doors would sell more cars since unless you are in your teens or earlier 20s a vast majority of people have families. I myself dont like 4 doors, in the almost 2 years I've had the car I've opened the back doors exactly zero times other then to dry them after a wash.

I was born in 1968 when I was a kid back in the 70s a family had two vehicles a four door sedan or station wagon and a two door or coupe some had three vehicles a sedan a coupe and a truck if they didn’t have a wagon younger people had two doors because they were sportier. I started driving in the mid 80s I always had a two door or two door hatchback witch was popular in the 80s in the 90s most young people used four doors as party vehicles

The Civic Type R is no muscle car.
Calling it that is simply stupid.
Those who think the opposite have zero clue what a “muscle car” truly is.....
Such a silly comment, honestly

never refer to the ctr as a muscle car.. thats an insult to the ctr.

muscle cars are big boats that handle corners like a yacht, driven by high school jocks and dudes with mullets.
CTR is a great machine.....
But you speak of insults.....
You clearly haven’t heard of the Mustang RTR have you?
Maybe look that up before you call them all “yachts”
Educated yourself child

My 1973 Dodge Dart Sport 340 is a muscle car. I like my ‘17 Hatchback 1.5 Turbo and is quick, but no comparison. An R is not a Musclecar, but a tuner vehicle.

I wouldn’t take my Mopar to a local meet.

You are the first one to state you own a true muscle car that I can agree with :)

Well according it the Hot Dog Counsel "According to the council, "Our verdict is…a hot dog is an exclamation of joy, a food, a verb describing one 'showing off' and even an emoji. It is truly a category unto its own."

That is it, thank you, The R is so special and important it is a joy and a category unto its own.
So then it's not a muscle car.

You all have made see the light. Why limit the awesomeness of the R with such a simplistic moniker as Muscle car. That would be like calling a derby winning throubread just a horse or a majestic cheetah just a cat or even the mighty hotdog something as mundane as a sandwich. No my friends the type R is not a Muscle car . . . It is so much more.

It's like comparing an apple to an orange. The R in CTR is always a line that Honda claims to be track ready street cars, well tuned engine, light body weight, (back in pre-FD2 days there's also the recaro seats, momo steering wheel), it's a track oriented car, mean to create lap records.

While American Muscle cars as far as I understand, got to be as least an American brand, loud(and probably big) engine, with muscle like body line, not necessarily an agile car, but known to do great on acceleration races, while others can still achieve that, Muscle car is the one that's well known to do that. I know there're many videos out there now proving many other cars can do good on acceleration test (even better, like the Tesla Model S for instance) but it doesn't make them American Muscle. (Man, I feel so out of place since I'm not even an American lol)

So like in a boxing game there's the light weight class and the heavy punch class, they're both powerful in their own class, just not the same category.

On the other hand, CTR is more suitable to be called Japanese tuners, because it's a Japanese brand, so there are Japanese aftermarket brands that will supports and make parts for it. My rough guess is we probably can't find BBS wheels, HKS big decals on body, J's racing muffler kit, and Blitz suspension kit that's specifically made for (or look suitable on) a Challenger.... That's why you won't call a Challenger a Japanese tuner.

I don't think it's really what they're capable for, but rather these American muscle and Japanese tuner are more of a stereotype thing.

For as long as it’s japanese, and front drive. It will never be a muscle car. It’s the better car, however.
