Take a financial hit on depreciation for a volume knob?

Probably the most ridiculous thread I’ve ever come across.

I am contemplating that our FK8 would be the last Gas-only Type-R ever made by Honda, or perhaps even the last Type-R with a Manual.

Our cars could maintain their values for the years to come :D

What in the holy fuck?

If you’re trying to trade for a volume knob. And so, what are you going to do when then 2020 is released, jump of a bridge?

Posts like these make me wish the CTR was never brought to the states. Shit, with these owners who can’t appreciate it.

A volume knob? A fucking volume knob? Fan speed controls. You probably never even turn on the AC to begin with. Even if you did...

Any dealer just learning why you’re trading are going to get a huge markup and trade under-value erection.

Oooooffff!!!!
Agreed it’s a cry fest over trivial bullshit.

I have an 18 and 19. There's subtle differences, but not a single thing that would make me go "I need to upgrade". The volume knob is nice, but ugly AF. The fan control buttons don't matter to me as I use "Auto" control on the HVAC. One thing I did notice, that I do not like, is the trunk release button. On my 18, I press it and it pops the trunk. On the 19, I have to hold it for like 2 seconds and then it pops it open.

I asked my dealer before I posted this question, because they didn’t have an answer for me (no stock). I just want to change the color, PMM is a bit boring for me.
Are you considering the swap because you want Sonic Gray? I have a CW but really wanted PMM. I also have about 6k miles, no mods.

I would consider a swap. Message me if you want to discuss.

In California you should have no trouble getting at least 35k for your car... I dont know if your comfortable with Craigstlist but that might be the quickest way aside from dealers. For buying I would 100% say go out of state and ship the car to you. Theres several dealers here on the east coast that will do MSRP and it may only cost you like $700 to ship the car. Laith Honda in North Carolina does MSRP. Theres a Honda dealership in Richmond VA that does MSRP, I just forgot which one. There is a gentleman on this forum I think his name is Eddie@honda and he's based out of New Jersey and they do MSRP. That's your best route.
The dealer in Richmond VA is Colonial Honda. I bought a MY19 from them for MSRP.

Thanks but at this point I think I’m going to give up on the idea. Just too much hassle. If anyone just wants to buy my car then I’d get a BMW instead.

Came here to post the ridiculousness of trading a year old car in for the next year....However people like you are the reason I got a killer deal on my car. Don't have to buy new and still get a car with 10k-15k miles on it. Let someone else eat the 'drive off the lot depreciation' haha Also end of the day if its what you want you don't have to explain sh!t to anyone

I just wonder if the 19 head unit, in addition to the knob, runs faster. Like internal hardware upgrades.

Ive mentioned elsewhere, my 18 Fit AA/CP unit has the volume knob and it runs considerably faster than the 17 Civic.

Frisco: Whaaccu been smoking' Brah?
Nothing crazy. Sorry, I find it annoying that people complain about a volume knob or lack of dimming mirror and other things.

Why buy the car?

Even further the Type R historically was track focused later to be offered as track focused daily drivers with just the basics. AC and radios used to be options. The R has always been about keeping amenities slim while focusing on performance. The FK8 is pretty true to those roots so it irks me when I see complaints in every other thread that goes against what the essence of the Type R is about which is driving experience and performance.

Totally agree with you. Though, I think folks should express their annoyance in a respectful manner and drop the sarcasm. The OP wasn’t complaining. She was speculating on the possibility of trading up. I personally think the idea of trading from 18 to 19 is nuts, but if someone wants to do it I’m sure not going to be rude to them. What does being rude get any of us?

The deal seemed to me that the OP was not happy with the color and was musing about trading for a different color. Some turned it into the knob/e-brake light/etc slam-fest...which the OP never mentioned as issues. I, personally, would not trade a one year old car because of color, but if someone else wants to and can...more power to them.

I agree the Type R appears to be a purpose built vehicle and creature comforts cannot always be expected in such a design as it is definitely "not your father's Oldsmobile"(or Honda), but that could be a different thread.

Anyway, no harm no foul.
