As part of my lease deal, the dealer indicated this would be a nice addition however after crunching the numbers this may not be necessary anymore as more than likely I will be driving less than 7000-8000 miles per year. It was priced at $950.00 for 3 years / 36000 miles for the Maintenance Care package. It would cover oil changes and tire rotations and other tidbits for the life of the lease which sounded nice as my prior lease I paid significant amounts for the 30K maintenance service (almost $500!). But I only ever went in for service a total of 4 times and that was when I was driving more frequently. Could I have done better in terms of negotiating the price or is something like this not needed since I am driving significantly lower miles? I still have 30 days to cancel this.

Cancel it! They tried to roll that into my payment to and I declined. If you do the math its not worth it. Oil changes you can do yourself and tire rotation aren't expensive to do.

Cancel it !!!
$960 for 3 years is about $1 a Day.
I can just see the Finance guy asking and telling you :-

"It's only $1 a day, isn't it worth $1 a day, and it will save you on individual maintenance charges over that 3 year period... you can afford $1 a day, can't you ?

But at 8000 miles per year, and 10,000 miles per oil change, you are only going to get (under that maintenance care Package, 2 oil changes in the 3 year period.

So basically that's $480 per oil change !!! Sounds like a great deal to me ( For the Dealer)

Lol no joke that's the same exact tactic another finance manager used to get me into accepting the aftermarket Karr Alarm on my previous lease. "It's only $11 dollars more a month, and you can live with the peace of mind when going grocery shopping, etc." Literally said no like 5 times but she wouldn't budge and I caved in cause I just wanted to get out since it was 10 PM by the time I left. I came to the dealership at like 6:55 PM with a trade in so it was not a fun endeavor.

I agree going to cancel it, contacted the finance manager and surprisingly she did not try to persuade me to keep it. Must be because I wrote an email indicating after crunches the numbers it didn't make sense to keep it.

It's the Tactics the Finance Managers use. When you are talking to the salesperson, it's all about the PRICE OF THE CAR...

Then when you go talk to the Finance Manager, so get the paperwork sorted out, it's all about affordable Monthly payments, and a whole lot of things that "you need" have magically been added, and get justified because they are only a few more dollars a months. The Bottom Line total price you are really paying gets pushed into the background, and it's all about affordable monthly payments.

Suddenly that $24,000 car is really costing you $28,000 + !!!!

Yeah true I should have been more thorough but wanted to leave immediately. In the meantime to give an update I just saw the finance manager and we just signed the cancellation request document for that Honda Care maintenance package, of course it was rolled into the balance so that will reduce principal. Thanks everyone for their insight.
