Extensive testing was done before the product was released. They also have a turbo that has over 20k miles with no issues at all.
"No plan survives contact with the enemy" I've heard this quote many times and it almost always stands true.
We did do extensive testing and did push the W1 further than anyone else has to date, but life is full of variables. How we respond to new developments is what truly defines. We investigate, learn, and improve.

I have worked for two software companies and 3 IT departments. There is a common saying: "There is no test like production"

Honda tested this 1.5t for lord knows how long, then hits the market and "oh crap, whats this extreme fuel dilution in cold climates on short drives?"

Let me answer some of your question here:
Chris notified us of the issue he was experiencing, we went through some diagnostic troubleshooting with Chris over the phone then proceeded to have him remove the turbo inlet pipe and the downpipe for further inspection. With that the fractured turbine wheel was found and we opted to get the turbo back for a full inspection so we could better understand that potential cause of failure. As part of the inspection we also reviewed the ECU calibration that was on the vehicle.

The turbine housing and wheel shows signs of excessive heat seen with discoloration of the housing and the white "coating" within the housing and on the turbine wheel.
The ECU calibration had a target AFR of ~12.8 for Emix. The use of Anti-lag cannot be confirmed.
The findings from the turbo inspection and the findings in the ECU calibration correlate with the probable cause of failure due to excessive heat.

After inspection was complete we advised Chris on our concerns about the lean target AFR for WOT and the issues the lean AFR and anti-lag can have on a turbocharged vehicle. With that we replaced the turbocharger under warranty because ultimately we want our customers to be taken care of.

Despite the cause of failure, this gives us a chance to learn and make improvements in the future where possible.

"cause of failure due to excessive heat"

If this genius destroyed his turbo because of excessive use of Anti-lag then kudos to 27won for still taking care of its customers.

That's a solid endorsement for those of us who only daily drive and occasionally (cough, cough)streetrace(cough, cough) err, drive spiritedly.

Recently I purchased the w1 turbo. my car is stock other then a +3 basemap from hondata on my 2017 civic LX 6MT. fuel trims seemed normal and everything about the car seemed normal (other then the instant jump in boost compared to stock). Theres less then 10k miles on the turbo and the car is driven as a daily grocery getter. turbo failed on me and the damage is almost identical to what happened above. 27won has been super nice about the situation so far and asked for me to send it back for inspection. fingers crossed
