When buying the CTR, did you consider or come from another 4-door sports sedan?
My main reason to buy a 4-door sports sedan is to drive my family around.. no commuting.
I'm considering a CTR or maybe a used Lexus F (anyone have experience to share about driving experience differences) ?

My previous cars have all been either two door hatches or coupes. Being able to use the back seat is a nice added bonus that came with the CTR. I don't think anyone ever sat in the seat directly behind the driver the whole time I owned my previous car (09 Civic Si Coupe).

I also seriously considered these 2 cars before purchasing the CTR

Tesla Model 3 - Decided against it due to high initial cost to get the options I wanted. It was going to be over 50k and no idea when it would be ready.

WRX STI - nice car, but the styling was a little boring for me.

I went from an STI to the CTR. Both cars are a lot of fun but definitely get more attention in the R. It depends on what you're going for in the vehicle.

So heres what I can Say about the ISF as I have both and you mentioned The Lexus F, The ISF rear seats are really small and tight, My son is on an infant car seat and is always kicking the front seat due to no room, On the Type R he can't even touch the front seat, My girl even says the rear seat on the Type R is more comfortable and roomy compared to the F but I will say I do like the V8 power and it being RWD on the ISF.

Model 3 also. Main issues that drove me to the CTR
1) Model 3 insurance was more than double that of the CTR for the same miles
2) When the Model 3 came out and I was CTR shopping the teslas had a lot of fitment issues
3) Not sure I'd want a Model 3 (or any Tesla) out of warranty, but a Honda? Previously I've only had Hondas out of warranty
4) 50k (and more up front) is a bit more than I wanted to pay (hard to cross-shop 2 cars when the difference is more than 10k)
5) Decided I'd rather have a Toyota or Honda BEV for peace of mind.

In the intervening year since I've got my car, my cousin got a model 3 and my thoughts:
1) The tesla has better off the line acceleration. I don't get that brain mash feeling in the CTR that I do even in a LR TM3
2) Fit and finish issues have largely resolved, it looks like.
3) I like the transformer-y feel of the CTR interior better than the ikea interior in the TM3
4) Model 3s are everywhere, but i only see one CTR a day (my own)
5) The extra money difference was definitely helpful this past holiday season.
6) I still hate waiting in line at Costco gas, but I go during off hours now

And you made the right choice in regards to the STI. Had a turbo Subaru, cousins had turbo subarus, friends have had turbo subarus. One and done, never again.

Thanks for this.. I researched both Fs.. and I'd look more for the larger GS F due to newer safety features and backseat room. I have a s2000, and was worried that the CTR won't feel fun being FWD.

I looked at the TM3 too.. IMO, looks weird like a shrunken car.. no where as good as the Model S. Also, seems everybody has one like somebody else said.

I happen to work at a Lexus dealership and I would say go for the GSF, Way more room than both the Type R and ISF, But I believe GSF's will be a great collector car in the future as not too many of those sold, If you want a fun zippy car go for the Type R, For cruising with power go GSF!

Coming from an s2000 before my CTR.
The CTR is about as fun, but less of a drivers car.
CTR is alot more daily driveable, has more power, and has more room/backseats.
But it will not beat the driving experience that the s2000 offers.

For an alternative 4 door car. I would choose something from the Lexus lineup definitely a GS F > IS F.
I work at a Lexus dealership and both are rare.
The RC F seems more widely available.

Ford Focus RS - I didn't like how cheap the interior was, the harsh ride I would've "dealt with" but gosh the interior dash was complete trash.

Subie Wrx Sti - I have a few friends who own one: Great car, aging platform and it rides and feels like one.

Benz AMG GLA45 - A bit too pricey once you get into the options

Porsche Macan S - Again, options and very pricey.

In the end I went with the Type R because it was the better package out of everything.

had a s2k that i sold few months ago and the ctr is definitely fun. however it does not give you the same driving experience that the s2k does.

For a family You can’t go wrong with a GSF however they will be a lot more expensive to buy and probably maintain in the long haul. I have a s2k and the type r replaced a atsv for me. Even though it is fwd the car is a boatload of fun when you push it. It has tons of room and overall should be pretty inexpensive to maintain. With that being said if you can afford the F and handle a auto that car would be a great cruiser.

I considered the Golf R, but after seeing how tiny the cargo space was, it was a no go.
