hey guys picked up a 1.5L turbo coupe last month and even after 1000 miles I’m not even getting close to epa 31 city or 39 highway. 28.7 after 3 refills. What’s wrong with the car? Another guy on the forums just got a brand new one and is already getting 39 and I’m furious. Causes for the super low mpg? I live in Ohio

Cold weather, winter blend gas, excessive idling, city driving, hilly terrain, short commutes etc. all contribute to lower MPG.

In warm weather with summer gas, I average in the high 30's on my commute (60/40 highway/city). In the winter, I see 4-5 less MPG's. Pure highway driving, I get around 40. City stop and go only, more like 25.

Mileage numbers on the sticker tend to be best case scenario driving. Don't get mad when you see someone else with better MPG's. They may live in a flat area and do long highway commutes.

I’ll add also, that depending on which gas station I go to, my final mpg will be different. If I go to the gas station right before getting on the highway and then sitting in traffic, it will be different by a couple gallons than if I didn’t sit in traffic or if I went to one closer to home and got the number up first.

Wait for summer in Ohio. You will see the difference. If my CivicX is out in the Canadian winter's cold and I do a short trip home I'll get 18 mpg, even with the block heater on. In the summer the same trip gets me 36 mpg or so.

90% of my miles are highway miles, with my cruise control on in sixth gear. That's how I average 39 mpg.

It's from the cold. All these new DI turbo motors drop MPG like a rock in the winter (between worse gas and bitter cold.) I average like 35-36 in the summer driving the same mixed route, in the winter its 26-27.

At least gas is cheap right now. It's as cheap as it was when I started driving in 2004.

I get low 20s on my Si but I drive 2-3 miles at most each way. When I actually get the car warmed up and drive out in the highway I’m in the mid 40s

Fuel is cheap right right now. Get on the gas! I keep mine in Sport mode and drive everywhere like I'm Mario freaking Andretti from green light to red light like I'm in a drag race! I get like 27 mpg. I'd rather enjoy the drive than worry about an extra 5 mpg but hey...thats me. :drive:

Mileage threads. STOP THE MADNESS.

There are too many factors to compare mileage. When our engine gets to normal operating temps, the Civic X is capable of great highway mileage with moderate outdoor temps and summer blend gas. Pure city stop and go gives shitty mileage on any car, plain and simple.

As an example, one trip on the highway, with a warm engine, I may get 40 mpg. The next day, driving a shorter distance, with some city mixed in I may only see 30 mpg. Driving up hills reduces it even further. Downhill increases it. If I drive Mario style I may only see 25. That's how mileage works. So, unless you drive the exact same route as someone else, and the exact way, you can't compare.

Mileage is subjective. It's all based on your driving habits, driving patterns, weather, etc. I'm sure it's cold in Ohio right now, so that's a contributing factor. Winter fuel blends will also add to it. Are you doing mostly highway or street? Are you going up and down a lot of hills? Right now, my near FBO Si is getting 32mpg because I do 60 mile round trips to work, all highway. My wife's Si is getting about 25mpg because she drives local streets.

I have only owned my 2019 Si for 11 days, have put only 270 miles on it so far, mostly short trips and am getting 27 mpg. I live in the Dallas Metroplex so we are relatively flat, but traffic can get a bit heavy. My Focus ST only recorded 24 mpg under the same driving and weather conditions after 20 months, and the high on trips was only 31. I will take the fuel mileage of the Si over the former ST and be happy...I'm still on the fill up from the dealer, and they used 87 octane. I generally used Shell V 10 Premium in my ST, and will also use it in the Si...

DFW here too, tuned as well but my ext gets between 26-30 mpg depending on traffic. I drive I 30 Texpress and the Speed limit is 75 as well so that doesnt help.

I'm averaging 35 in an MN winter running 89 octane. I use eco mode A LOT. It's basically crap winter gas + idling. In my older lancer i'd get 16 city in the winter at times, but in the summer it'd barely go below 25 in those settings.

Note: might try and go back to 87. I know there's a lot of myth surrounding 89 but I had an old car that actually ran better on 89 so I figured it was worth a shot.
