Hi all,

I'm interested in having the PRL downpipe installed. I checked with my local shop and the guy said he would do it for a couple hundred bucks. I asked if any sort of flash or tuning would be needed and he said no. Anyone know if that's true? I always thought if anything was modded, even a bolt on, that some sort of adjustments would be necessary?

A tune isn't required for our DP however you will need a tuning solution to turn off the CEL code for emissions that it may eventually throw

You’ll need to be able to disable the secondary O2 sensor to avoid a CEL. Even with the catted version. Hondata or KTuner can do that. The ECU will compensate otherwise, though a custom tune would be the way to maximize performance. You don’t need a custom tune though.

Thanks for the help, should I wait for a new intercooler before tuning?

And if I tune with an intercooler and downpipe do you know if stock clutch would need to be upgraded?

Without a tune, an Aftermarket clutch shouldn’t be needed.
WITH a tune and those mods you mentioned, your stock clutch will wear out sooner and you’ll need to replace it.
I’m running Hondatas 9PSI basemap with PRL Cobra Cold Air Intake and their Catted DownPipe, so far my clutch has been okay for 3,000 miles but will be looking into replacing it when it wears out.

You will not need a tune as these are direct bolt ons. The stock clutch on the new civics are very weak and people have reported slippage without bolt-ons.

Just start saving for a clutch if you tune. The additional torque will take a toll on the garbage clutch in the Si.

It will throw a check engine light unless you use a defouler to move the bottom o2 out of direct exhaust flow. It’s primary purpose is to monitor gases to make sure your catalytic converter functioning correctly. If you add a high flow converter or remove the o2 senes more rapid exhaust gas changes and it throws a check engine light. By using a defouler it slows the down the changes in the reading of the sensor fooling the ecu to think it functions. The defouler will work 99 percent of the time. A right angle defouler or a 90 degree bend work well if they are faced upward on a downpipe. Here is a picture of one below. I’ve gone through emissions with one before. It works cause catalytic monitors in ecu are working and not disabled. That’s provided they do not check for factory parts like California.

A tune will allow you to disable the code and get the most performance out of the car. Without a tune there’s very little gain especially with a type r. With a type r the ecu is excellent at controlling boost and torque. It will not change performance.
this rv6 defouler uses a lock nut to allow any position.

I don’t have a shop for you necessarily, I did the DP myself. My guess, though, is that a shop would Bill the job around 4 hours. Indy shops here in Cola are $85/hour on average so my guess would be you’re looking at $340 labor. I had Pope Davis in Columbia do my lowering springs and they did a fine job. Golden Motors does so custom work beyond just the trucks. Das Autohaus in Lexington does mostly VW/Audi, but other stuff too. The owner is good to talk to though I’ve never had them work on my car.
