Definitely do not agree. Even the Fiesta ST interior crushes the Veloster. Hyundai/Kia plastics are just bad!
Actually, I like the Fiesta ST as a track car. For the money, it has a good balance of power and handling. Its 1.6 L turbo is responsive, and the chassis is really good. I liked how I can get the car to rotate with throttle steering alone. In a FWD car, it's remarkable.

With that said, there's plenty of hard cheap plastics in the Fiesta that aren't always put together well. I know quite a few Fiesta ST drivers who stripped out their interiors b/c they don't like them and turned their cars into track weapons.

Same! There’s no reason multiple species of similar cars can’t coexist. Competition is good after all - that’s what leads to improvements down the road!

I talked to a few Subaru owners and they admit that a lot of the WRX/STi owners are uh.. very closed minded. I for one love the WRX/STi and hope some of the Subaru owners love the CTR.
yeah, I still like the STi's. I had one...but like the CTR more lol. I see a few STi owners and they always glare at me. Cracks me up when I see their comments on social forums, etc talking about how ricey the CTR looks...like, they forgot that giant wing they have also

Don’t discount the Si if you are looking for a bargain.

As a KDM fanboy and a Type-R owner, I'll just say one thing.
They put an amazing package in a wrong car.

Honestly, I don't care about the German guy. I've never liked an M over RS or AMG anyways lol
But, Hyundai as a company has been building really nice cars these days.
I've never had any reliability issue with my Forte Turbo, which I absolutely loved. Of course, that was Pre-Albert Biermann.

Theta seems to have the most issues in their line-up, but who cares :)I still love EJ25 and 2.3 Ecoboost.
I Simply love the pops that the stock exhaust makes. According to the reviewers, the handling is the best " in its class."
But it's just the Veloster part.

Hyundai should've just brought the i30N or use the same recipe on something like the Elantra Sedan or Kia Forte.
But nope, they decided to use the worst car in their compact line-up.
It's not as practical as other 4 or 5door cars, yet it doesn't look as sporty as the old Tiburon.
Interior quality just makes me laugh. Elantra GT has VW Golf-like interior quality. The veloster? Same level as Mitsubishi Mirage.

I hate crossovers, but I would gladly take the rumored Kona N over the Veloster N.

As someone who grew up with their parents dailying a 90s Nissan Quest minivan with one rear sliding passenger door (a 3-door minivan); I can tell you that 3 doors is much more inconvenient than you might think. It's not just (Oh I'll just access the back seat from one side only). When loading AND unloading your car, the more full it is with people or cargo, the more difficult it will be.

People have to single-file their way out, which builds a lot of frustration/impatience if the one next to the door is a very lazy my-pace kind of person. After a long road trip, I want to get out as soon as possible, but I have to wait for my potato of a sibling to wake up, rub his eyes, stretch, sit there and think about where he is and what the meaning of life is before he gets out and makes way for me to get out.

and if you had to move furniture around in a car you should know how often each side door is used to assist in moving cargo safely in and out of the rear.

I think the N is a fantastic car, and having some money left over is always nice. Also, once some of the initial hype dies down, I think you might be able to get a deep discount on the N, which aint happening in the R.

I think most could agree, Hyundai makes decent cars. If it weren't true, there wouldn't be so many on the road. My only experience was driving a friends new 2013 Elantra. Vague steering feel and input, blah acceleration, fair interior. A decent car. But nothing impressed me.

Stopped by my local Hyundai dealer today and looked at a red N: $2-3k in dealer-installed options and a $5k markup. LOL!

imho, the N is more GTI/Si competitor than CTR competitor. Yes, the N has more power, as did the Maza Speed3 from years ago vs the Focus ST or GTI, but HP is only part of the equation.Test drive all 3 and buy accordingly. (which in todays markets mean you will end up with an SUV ;) )

3-dr may also be less practical than you want. Depends how long you plan to keep the car and expect changes to your family/lifestyle that might warrant the convenience of a 4th door.

Trying to decide between New '19 Type R, Used '17/'18 Type R, or a Veloster N. This would be my new daily. Needs to accommodate a 3yr old boy.

What are y'all's thoughts? What price would you recommend a used Type R over the new model? Or if anybody has been in the new veloster, is the back seat big enough for actual use?

Thanks for any feedback. It's all appreciated!
Just went through this exact quandary at the end of the year. Obviously I picked the CTR. My situation is different than most though. My "daily driver" gets driven about two weeks a month, and even then...not much. I average ~3000 miles/year on my primary car. If my daily were closer to my old 10000 miles/year, I'd have chosen differently.

I drove a used CTR and as someone else pointed out, they really drove it hard and it felt like it. I drove a Veloster, obviously not an "N", but was really unimpressed. Still felt like a Hyundai...cheap. Just not in the same class as a Honda. On the other side of the ledger, the CTR isn't a great daily driver. You'd be better off with an Si. I own both an Si and a CTR, and if I drove every day, I'd prefer the Si simply for economics. The CTR is going to cost a lot more to maintain. Tires alone are going to be costly. You can opt to go with different tires, but there are trade offs. The Si is still a blast to drive too!

It really depends on preference. The N is a cool car and definitely cheaper than a CTR but i believe hatch on the CTR is definitely bigger. I also think having 4 doors is more practical than 3 just because if you put the car seat in the rear, it practically makes it inconvenient to access any other usable space behind the driver seat. Of course that is my opinion.
