I used to pick things up from UPS in Deerfield instead of waiting on delivery because my apt was sketch. You try calling? You might be able to pick up as soon as it gets there instead of waiting till after New year's

I'm currently on hold with FedEx because I was expecting 2 boxes today for the Miata build. I received the box with my new clutch, the box with my suspension bits are "at the destination facility" and didn't make it onto the truck. I live 1 mile away on the same street as the facility.

Edit: Customer service rep says the facility confirmed the box isn't there, and the driver isn't picking up his phone. They will call me to follow up. I doubt that, so I'll probably call back later.

Edit 2: Package now shows delivered, it wasn't. Customer service is trying to call the driver "no guarantees we will call you back today." Tomorrow is a holiday. "Please stay on the line for our satisfaction survey", damn right I will.

I ship and receive by USP & FEDEX almost every day.

It has been very noticeable, that over the past 2-3 years, both their "service" have been decreasing, at an ever increasing rate.

I often talk to both our regular UPS & FedEx drivers.

They both tell me that working conditions are rapidly getting worse at both companies, Management does not seem to have a clue about the logistic issues the drivers have, and seem to spend all their time, making new and limiting rules to impede the drivers.
Moral is at an all time low in both companies.

They both tell me that in recent years, any commitment to meet delivery times in December goes out the window, and it is typical for packages not only to be delivered late, past commit time during the day, and it is not uncommon that they are delivered at least one day or more says late. This would seem to be a know, accepted "policy" within both companies, know to the drivers, but never openly fully disclosed to the customers.

I have also seen an alarming increase in the number of occurrences where a package is reported as being delivered, but has not. Drivers are blatantly falsify delivery reports.
Nobody seem to care anymore, and if you call and report an issue, and they say that someone will call you back, they NEVER do. They seem to just say they will to get you off the phone.

The only good thing I can report, is that so far, none of my inbound or outbound packages are so far gone permanently missing, but I would not be surprised to see that start happening in 2019.

USPS is little better !!!

If course, both in November & December 2017 & 2018, AMAZON gets the blame.. !!!

Amazon thinks ahead and books/reserves all the available extra "Contract" Planes, and both USP & FEDEX are left scrambling with inadequate air transportation.
Happened in 2017, and neither UPS or FedEx learnt the lesson for 2018 !!

Sigh !!

This is a case for YMMV. My experience have been opposite. UPS and FedEx have never once late for me and I can easily redirect my packages to an access point near my work well ahead of time. USPS, on the other hand, has been a dog. Weekday delivery isn't bad, but for the few times I paid Amazon extra for Sunday delivery handled by USPS, the driver never even attempt to deliver the package. He just mark the status as "No Secured Location Available" and I had to pick up the package at my local postal office the next day.
