I think this is different in your model than in the US model. In the US model LX 1.5T hatchback that I have, there are no car settings in the double-din infotainment unit. It's just a basic radio/bluetooth device. I really wish Honda had not made this so complicated.

Read the thread entirely, and many thanks for the information and efforts here. I am like a prior poster to this thread being up in Canada and my LX has the upgraded unit with the combined climate controls. Basically I think we're both going to have to work with that setup. Can't see a way around that one - but offering up my option will be to go with this new Alpine upgrade with sub and amp customized for our cars. Just wanted to share. And apologies if old news = https://www.crutchfield.com/g_370550/Factory-System-Upgrades.html?o=f
This is almost exactly how I first tried to upgrade my LX sound and it's cool that it's all integrated and will be perfectly solidly mounted. However I am stunned by the price. This amp, a nice JBL underseat powered sub plus replacement speakers all added up to $400 for me with a little shopping around. This thing is nearly twice that, doesn't include speakers, and it doesn't solve the most important problem which is that the factory unit outputs horrible sound. I would avoid.

LX, no question the pricing is brutal. Up here in the GWN, our LX's come with the higher level head unit which has the integrated climate controls. Basically, I can't see a way around that. Wish I had the base unit as my friends stateside have. Much easier. LX, I will need to search for your setup as up here the price for the unit will be 1099.00 I'd pay it though as I want better sound and is a one time charge for a car I hope to keep for a long time. If there's a better way I'll need to apparantly research further. The one thing which makes it for me is that it is precisely fitted for our cars, will give me exactly what I am looking for and is made by a fantastic company.

I know I already commented on this, but I wanted to show you what I would consider to be a real, properly engineered factory-upgrade package. Now this is obviously NOT FOR OUT CIVICS, so it doesn't help much, but I think there is ready value here. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_990JBLF150/JBL-Concert-Edition-Premium-Audio-Upgrade.html

This comes with:
Two 6" x 8" 2-way speakers for front doors
Two 6-1/2" 2-way speakers for rear doors
Subwoofer enclosure with two 8" subwoofers for under rear seat
8-channel 360-watt amplifier with digital signal processing tuned to make the best use of the interior and factory head unit
This retails for $1000 and I think it is fine value at that price, but it's on sale right now for $400, which is obviously fantastic

Compare that to the alpine system which is fine in that includes amplification and a sub, but no speakers and no processing capability to clean up the sound.

Don't let Alpine profit off of that product, and better yet, use the $750 to get an amp with built-in auto-equalization, get some speakers and a sub, and pay the same amount of money.
4-channel amp with mic that will auto-EQ: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_206KEY1804/Kicker-KEY180-4.html ($200)
Polk audio speakers for front doors (or do both front and rear, they are on sale) https://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB652/Polk-Audio-DB-652.html ($60 / $120 for four)
OK fine if you really want the Alpine sub, go for it. It'll still fit fine under your seat. without any worry. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500PWES8/Alpine-PWE-S8.html ($300)

So there you go, got you a better amp for your needs, four quality speakers (I run em and love em), and the sub you wanted in the first and saved you $130.

You're welcome.

Feel the need to explain here, the LX is the highest trim I could get a stick in, other than the Si, or higher up in Canada. Sharp folks on this board and I have already changed up my plan with some great advice.

Thia might be a dumb question, but do you still need the AWSC-1 if your head unit can reprogram the steering wheel buttons? I'm thinking about getting the Sony XAV AX5000 and the guy in the video below seems to be able to customize the steering wheel buttons in his Jeep. Not sure if it's any different in our Civics.

[February 10th 2019] Edit: I installed this Sony unit over the weekend. Everything works perfectly including ALL steering wheel buttons with the AWSC1 manual programming. And yes you do need that unit even if the head unit can customize the controls.

Hey guys, got a bit of a problem upgrading the radio in my 18 Sport.

I ordered a JVC headunit + the Cruchfield Readyharness with steering wheel stuff etc. The problem is whenever I hook everything up the 10AMP accessory fuse in the cabin blows. Also the unlock/lock door controls cease to function (although these return to normal when the new radio is disconnected). I took it back to Crutchfield and they claimed it was the radio, swapped me a new one, but the same behavior exists. Is there something "special" about the 2018 Sport? Anyone have a clue?

I know it's almost been a year since your post, but maybe with your SSD experience, you also (maybe, perhaps, at one point) tried inputting a digital audio player other than an iPod or phone into one of the Honda's USB ports?

Can't seem to get an answer anywhere. Ultimately, I want a player I can play hi-rez audio from into the car and in my home through headphones. Most players are Android-based, but I want to know what the head unit will/won't do before I spend $500 on one.

I posted this in another thread, but should probably be included here. For me, the biggest pain was finding where to run reverse and illumnation wires since those are not included in the harnesses. I was able to find both under the dash:
Awesome information, thank you! Out of curiosity, does the illumination tap work properly when the headlights are set to auto?

I installed a Sony XAV AX5000 over the weekend and the crutchfield instructions had diagrams on how to wire the reverse camera and illumination triggers from the oem harness. That didn't work for the reverse trigger, so I used the reverse tap from your post and that works perfectly. I thought the illumination wire was working properly, but the headunit will only go into night mode when the lights are set to on and it will not go to night mode when I'm set to auto, even when the lights turn on at night. Thanks!

One thing I did add in the interim is the Vais tech satellite setup for my LX. I highly recommend this if you are keeping (or need to like me) you stock head unit. The price is high, but it integrates seamlessly and not least of all the sound is incredible. Better than FM with my stock unit. I have the Canadian LX which has the upgraded unit from the DX here = has the integrated climate controls = so no easy way around that. The only issue = with the upgraded unit we have up here is I cant seem to get presets to work = but that's okay. Sirius was the main thing and all channels I listen to are close to each other. Full OEM control. And the sound is awesome. I intend to either do the Kicker key DSP mini amp or still looking at the Alpine amp and sub - but it is really expensive. Waiting to see reviews on it.

Yep works as you would expect when the lights are set to auto. Glad it's working out for you.
