Hey guys,

I don't have my boost gauge on very often, but today I had the urge to see what my boost levels were at. I'm aware that the average psi levels is around 17-18 for the SI, so I was quite shocked to see that I was barely hitting 8 psi. I know the dealership is an option to go to, but I want to see if I can fix it myself before going there.

So, what are the possible causes of this problem and how can I fix them?

Much appreciated!

Not wide open, but 3/4 throttle. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be that low either at the 3/4 throttle, but then again I'm still new to this stuff.

I would get on it at 2nd to 3rd gear at over 3000rpm let the boost build and floor it...then if it still topping at 8 psi i take it to the dealer. Who knows maybe turbo can be bad lol. I work in a parts department and see weird parts getting changed. At Porsche we got a brand new 911 turbo S and the hydraulic stabilizer link was leaking already when doing the PDI.
Shit happens.

The boost is limited by power. Power target, not boost target. Some days you will see 17 psi and some days you may see 20 psi. Get a tuner and it becomes boost target.

I know nothing about tuning so pardon. My ignorance but if you got ktuner can you just dial a boost target or do you need to get it tuned by someone that knows what they're doing? I wouldn't mind having an option to get 20psi on demand instead of when the car wants.

You can run a tune that is stock/19.5 or 19.5/23

This

Also, if you are only part throttle, you wont see full boost pressure. Just floor it through 2nd or 3rd gear and if you are still seeing 8psi then thats not normal. You might have a popped hose on your intercooler.
