REVIEW - Rolloface 2 piece front rotors. direct oem replacements

Today i am reviewing the oem direct replacement 2 piece front rotors for the FK8 by rolloface. These rotors DO NOT require a rotor upgrade and are a direct bolt on.

The rotors hubs/hats come in two color options, Red and Silver. i choose to go with the red option .

From what i know of Rolloface they are a USA company based out of California and specialize in custom brake kits and replacement rotors.

Price- First off is price i paid 593$ us shipped for the Set of Front rotors with the RED HUBS. This price was the holiday sale rolloface is offering right now .

Packaging - First impressions were very nice with individual boxes and foam inserts. You typically think of rotors as heavy and hard to damage but the box came with fragile stickers on the box.

Unboxing- Once the rotors were out of the box the first and most obvious is the red anodized center hubs/hats. The hubs are bolted to the Disk with a basic bolt and nut with the bolts utilizing an allen or hex key head. I did not see any lock tight on the bolts but the bolts were marked with paint to check for loosening . The disk itself is NOT drilled or slotted but utilizes a "J HOOK" style groove to allow for more bite when braking. The disk also was coated in some form of anti rust coating.

Installation- The rotors were very straight forward and easy to replace. You will need a impact screw driver to remove the counter sunken hold down screw . I took note of various differences between the stock Brembo FK8 rotors and the Rolloface replacements. Fitment was spot on no issues with install.
1.First Obvious Difference was weight. NOTE* my stock rotors had 7k miles on them when i took them off . The Rolloface rotors came in heavier at 25.9 lbs VS the OEM Brembo rotors coming in at 24.6 lbs making the Rolloface Rotors 1.3lbs heavier . Although not much this was disappointing as i was hoping to save weight not add it.
2. Second difference i noticed was the venting and cooling. The Rolloface rotors have slight curved vane design compared to the stock. the pictures show this much better then i can describe it.

Performance and Feel - Before i installed these rotors i had installed Hawk Performance Ceramics (The Yellow Box ) Pads about 2k miles prior. Because of this i wanted to rough the pad surface and take off any glazing with a rough emery cloth so the pads would seat to the new rotors properly. This step is NOT needed if your are using new brake pads at the time of install. Once install was complete i performed the brake in procedure and seated the pads to the new rotors. I have put about 50 miles on the rotors so far and the brakes feel about identical to before. At times i feel like there is slightly more bite then before but i wonder if that is a placebo effect and would need to put more miles to confirm this. NOTE* i felt better brake performance then oem when i put the HAWK pads on previously and the feeling is the same to me now. The braking i have done is just Daily Driving and i have done no track days with them . I have had no squealing but that is more likely due to the HAWK pads i am running .

Appearance and Looks- This is subjective of course everyone has an opinion. My personal build i have tried to keep it very clean and tasteful with a touch of bling and flash here and there. After the brake in was done i think the Rotors really look stunning sitting behind a VOLKS ZE40 and ad a small touch to the car that really looks great. The "J Hooks " are a nice touch and have performance look to them. The RED HUBS are slightly flashy but i do not think it over does it . The only negative i have is now the rear rotors look even more basic as they sit stock.

Overall - Overall the rotors and brakes feel great and although disappointed about the 1.4 lbs difference between stock i plan on keeping this set as long as they keep performing. I Will bump this post with updates as i put more miles on the rotors.

I think this is better thought out than Girodisc...the part of the concept of "floating" 2-piece brake is the ease of changing the disc out. But with Girodisc, the loosing nut is on the back side, so the entire disc and hub (both pieces) will have to be removed to change the disc...these Rolloface 2-piece might be different.

They’re not. There’s a nylock on the inside.

Besides, how are you going to get the disk off without removing the caliper? Which leaves all of nothing to get the whole assembly off.

yes caliper needs to come out, but if designed correct, the center hub will not need to come out if the disc can be un-bolted from the outside; otherwise, the disc and hub will have to be removed (after removing the caliper) to changes the disc. So essentially like a 1-piece rotor.

Why go heaver though? Girodisc is 3.5 lbs lighter.
You are correct. I was unable to find any specifications for these rotors. I went into this purchase blind with intentions of reviewing these rotors. Their website and promotions say their first goal is to save weight and this was clearly not the case. Their pictures in all of their marketing showed discrepancies. Some pictures showed a floating 2 piece and some showed a fixed 2 piece. I did not know what I was receiving until they arrived. One thing to note is the Girodisks are more expensive so you do get a more performance geared product but you also pay more.

I think they weigh more because the disk looks thicker and they don't have the drilled pattern. This in my mind means they could possibly retain more heat. Although they could potentially last longer from a thicker disk it's hard to say.

At this point I don't know if I would track these rotors although I don't have any data to back that up if they would do better or worse then stock, but for daily use I have had no issues with them They feel great and stop great and look great.

Weight gain total deal killer IMO.
You need to punch Rolo in the face for his false advertising.

They are for show cars. Only for the look not for the performance.

Anyway...

Thanks for the review.

Hats off to the honda engineers for giving us high quality OEM rotors. On my infiniti I saved roughly 13lbs per corner when i swapped over to 2 piece rotors. This does not seem like a cost effective upgrade even saving 3lbs per corner.
