Honestly, you want the LA or SD area for the car culture in general, regardless of cultural influences. Many aftermarket companies are located within SoCal, so getting parts is easy. They also tend to have events and there's always car meets going on. Now, keep in mind, you can take a 30 min drive and be in a highly affordable area. You can look into the following areas near LA that are affordable.

-West Covina (LA County)
-Chino Hills (San Bernadino County)
-Rancho Cucamonga (San Bernadino County)
-Upland (LA County)
-La Verne (LA County)
-Monrovia (LA County)
-Fullerton (Orange County)

Downsides to living in California;
  • Politically, California is 3 states. NorCal is liberal, Mid-Cal is Dem, SoCal is mostly Repub with Dem.
  • Cost of living is high. Expect to pay insane rates for rent if you want to live somewhere decent.
  • Fires. During the summer, most of the state is on fire. Ash and smoke in the air and all over your car.
  • Earthquakes. Periodically the ground shakes, but it's sometimes so small you don't even notice.
  • Smog Checks. Every 2 years, your vehicle needs a smog check. It gets annoying when heavily modified.
  • State Referee. Cop doesn't like something about your car? Well you get a free ticket to see the state ref so they can go over every detail on your vehicle. No bueno.
And the BIGGEST downside to living in California.....gun laws. The gun laws suck. They're designed to make honest citizens feel like criminals. They gun laws are poorly written and designed by people who have no idea what they're talking about. Feel good laws that do nothing but weaken the people. Last I checked, criminals don't follow laws. :dunno:

Positives to living in California;
  • Weather. It's spring 95% of the year. January? Pfft, windows down and t-shirt + shorts are on.
  • Want to go to the beach, sand dunes and snow boarding in the same day? All doable, regardless of season.
  • The food! We have such a wide variety of food available to us in all areas. Authentic asian, mexican, indian, greek, etc.
  • Driving Roads. We have Angeles Crest Highway, Azusa Canyon Road, Glendora Mountain Road, etc. All roads with twists and perfect for a cruise.
  • Dragstrips. We have 2 in LA area that are always poppin' off. Irwindale (1/8) and Fontana Speedway (1/4).
  • Auto-Cross/Time Attack Tracks. Willow Springs Intl. Speedway, Chuckwalla, Buttonwillow, Laguna Seca, etc. etc. We've got it.
  • Fast Shipping on Car Parts. A lot of part manufacturers are in California. As a result, you get incredibly fast shipping without having to pay extra.
The other major positive is what you were interested in in the first place. The car scene. We have every type of scene you could want here. Asian Tuners, Rat Rods, Old School Lowriders, Motorcycles, lifted trucks, domestic car clubs, etc. etc. There's events throughout the year and sometimes every single weekend for a month or two straight. We don't really have a "down season" other than self-imposed ones to give us time to work on our cars before the next big show.

I don't think you'll have a shortage of car things to do here. There's a reason people say the West Coast is where the real car scene is. :headbang:
Super solid answer my man.

The car scene here in the Bay is pretty lively, at least I think so. But with the definition of "low income" being over $117k, I think it's pretty obvious that it's super hard living here lol.
Yea it's super expensive. Our videographer moved up from the Bay area just cause it was so crazy expensive down there.

Maybe try another country like Australia. Probably has many asians now, they too like their cars down there, seems pretty tech oriented. Down side you'll be far away from home. Upside you'll be far away from home.
You may live longer too and better with better healthcare etc, plus the biggest bonus you don't have to worry about getting shot.
One of the better countries in the world to live in really and there's no winters

+1 on this. I have been before and it's a nice place and the scene is solid.

Just watch out for sharks. Oh, and snakes. Oh, and spiders. Oh, and fire. I always picture Australians as the type that're nice and calm in any scenario. They fight off death on the daily! I kid, of course. I'd actually really like to take a trip there one day.

Lmao, traffic is going to be bad in every metropolitan city. Some worse than others, and yes, Atlanta can be bad. I travel from 285 to midtown for my job and it takes about 30 minutes each way. My fiancee's commute from our apartment is a 10 minute trip on 285. It's all relative. I grew up in CA and moved in middle school. I was near the Bay Area and it's truly a great place to live. I don't have any intention of returning though, the CoL is too high for me. Road Atlanta and AMP are less than 2 hours away. There's multiple autocross clubs nearby. Easy to find car meets if that's what you like. Regular gas is below $2 in some suburbs rn. Lots of good food. I love Atlanta. Not perfect, but should be in consideration, imo

You know, if you were intrigued by the Atlanta area as an option you could look into the Knoxville, TN area.. I know people view this area as just a bunch of hicks, but that isn't entirely true. The car scene here is pretty solid and growing. Cost of living is probably some of the cheapest in the country, weather is pretty decent. Basically all the pros to Atlanta, and no traffic issues. Also, Atlanta is something like a 3hr drive away so it's pretty easy to attend their more main events. And last but not least - The Tail of the Dragon!! It's only an hour away! :thumbsup:

+1. Had my cousin in for town and was telling her that there are some SE cities that are worth looking at if you're on a budget. Atlanta, Charlotte, and Nashville would be my picks. Just don't become a fan of an Atlanta sports team, except our soccer team lol

What exactly is Asian car culture? I live in western Canada where domestic US trucks are called "domestics" even though this is Canada and there is still a strong bias against Toyota and Nissan trucks. But there are decent import scenes in these places. MK4's and glorified RHD beaters from the JDM market are very popular here. Gone are the days where people looked down on imports. Pick any major city in Canada and you'll find a decent import scene. I'm sure the same applies to the US

You want Asian, tech, awesome weather and probably a decent car culture? There’s little better than Hawaii dude
Hawai'i is awesome for the weather! But everything else in my opinion is.... debatable to say the least.... Traffic is awful most days of the week (5 out of 7), our roads are really bad here, and the cost of living is insane. Last I've heard Hawai'i was top 5 in highest cost of living... But the scenery here is second to none. The car culture down here is also very tuner heavy. You'll see modified import cars where ever you go. But I mean everywhere you go, the scene is not much like where you last. I have yet to experience other car cultures cause I don't have time to travel. Also we do not have a track here (unless your on Maui) so there isn't much of an outlet unless you're willing to take chances with the police. I'm not sure about how much tech jobs are out here because I work for a dealership, so my knowledge of IT jobs here are basically zere lol. If you decide to move down here, I'd love to show you around.
