Buy my CTR. Only 1600 - ish miles on it with $3k worth of mods for $36k. :D It's a steal if you ask me.

That said, buy what you want that's affordable. If money is not a true concern, don't settle because you will find yourself longing. I'm leaving the CTR world because I really miss the power of a V8 so I'm going back to a Vette, namely the C8.

I'm digging the C8 body. :beer:

A local dealer actually has an '18 in stock for $35,595. Seems a little high considering it is an '18. I just know if I get an Si, I'll have the same feeling I had after driving my SEL Taurus wishing I'd held out for the SHO. Later hearing from my wife say, "why didn't you just wait and get the SHO?" Women.... Okay, thanks everyone for the thoughtful (helpful) comments, even the guy that said, "Get a Supra". I am actually quite surprised I didn't get more comments like that. "Dude, get a Mustang". or "Hondas are crap. You need an Camaro SS".
That's the MSRP price so that's a "great" price compared to others who still have ADM at local dealerships. Do it once and do it right. If you like the looks of both cars, the Type R is a no brainer (obviously financials matter as well).

Yeah, there are definitely cheaper options. I assume you don't track your car with those pads, but have you done any spirited driving on twisty roads? If so, how did they hold up?
I have not done any extensive twisties yet (only had two months). But under hard braking it has a good firm feel and still stops hard. Don't know about fading, but it's ceramic material similar to many high performance pads so I think it should hold up well.

What insurance if you don't mind me asking?
From other comments I've read, most insurers classify it almost identically to any other trim Civic. My premium vs. my 2018 Si was negligible.

I personally decided to go the cheaper route. I bought an Si Coupe (love that body style) and decided to just mod the hell out of it. I could dump 5-6K on the Si and make more power than a stock CTR (Hondata/KTuner, FlexFuel, FP + DP, Clutch, Turbo Upgrade, etc.) and still be 10-15K richer. I could also daily it without really worrying (as much) about it. I also think its fun to see a CTR owner's reaction when getting passed by an Si. :D

In the end, the choice is yours. If you can afford it, go with the Type R. If it can possibly be a struggle, then strongly consider the Si.
I was there with an Si and regretted it almost immediately.
Ktuner+tune = $800
FP + DP = $800
Clutch = $500
Turbo = $2000
That's already $4000 not including install costs and dealing with the hassle of Flexfuel. Even with turbo upgrade, torque at the low end AND high end SUCKS vs. an R. You will need a turbo much bigger than the 27Won to keep up with a stock R. And more things to increase the likelihood of warranty denial. You have to be strongly committed to the upgrade path if that's what you want to do, otherwise be strongly content with a stock Si. The engine is a lot of fun but sputters completely compared to the R engine.

I'm on Flex-Fuel (E40 Blend) and haven't had a single issue. What hassles did you experience? As for the upgrades; I have confidence that MAP, PRL and 27WON will have plenty of solid options in the future. Hell, just reading MAPs thread on their Si build is enough to peak my interest. I bought the Si for cheap and I'm no stranger to heavily modded Hondas. :D

As an current modded SI owner and future Type R hopeful, I would just like to point out to everyone that ethanol availability is regional. I've been told many times on the SI forums to "just go flex fuel", and it's just not possible where I live.

:coffee:I came from a 2017 civic si sedan. I absolutely loved the car. I traded in July for a CW type R because i was able to get a decent deal and have wanted a type R since seeing the old integra type R. That said since having the type R Iā€™ve noticed that I worry constantly about blowing out tires and cracking wheels. Iā€™m realizing how much more expensive the R is to own if you plan on actually putting decent miles on it. However ALL of those worries go away every time I get in and drive it. Itā€™s the off times where I go a week without driving it where I think I could have kept my si and been just as if not more happy. I guess you could say Iā€™m on the fence?

Everything I read about the Type R is how great it is on a racetrack, the problem is I donā€™t live on a racetrack, I donā€™t even know where a racetrack is lol. At the end of the day the CTR is a 300 HP 4 cylinder civic, which I personally donā€™t think looks very nice, looks too plasticy, transformer toy like, I like the lines on my Si Coupe much better. If you want the big power on the street, in a car that looks really nice, for about $29K I would go with the Mustang GT, hands down. And itā€™s pushing close to 500 HP.

The looks are definitely polarizing. I think that the black Type R looks like the batmobile. I love it and can't wait to get one! I also love the look of my SI Coupe. It reminds me of the days of Honda sport coupes in the 90's. If there was a Coupe Type R, that would be the car that I'd get. But unlike some others, I also like the looks of the current Type R Hatchback.

Itā€™s not just a race track - itā€™s any scenic road with winding curves and elevation changes. You donā€™t need to break the speed limit either to enjoy it.

Mustang GT is a great car...but calling 460 HP, "pushing close to 500 HP" would be like saying the Type R is pushing close to 350 HP.
Id also like to know where you can get a GT for "about $29K" because none of the dealerships in my city are selling for less than $36k.
That being said, the Type R is $36k if you get it for MSRP so if you don't need 4 doors or a usable trunk, the GT definitely still wins.

You can buy a brand new 800 HP GT with a blower for $39,995 all day long, not much more than the CTR and a whole lot more power.

Wins what? I can tell you from personal experience that a Type R is significantly faster through twisty backroads than a base model Mustang GT.
Heck, even a Civic SI can hold more lateral Gs than a Mustang GT.

Not particularly related, but despite the 460 crank hp rating, especially when you are driving in the mountains at higher elevation, the Mustang I was chasing was slower at times than my Type R with a stage 1 tune. I had to let off to not hit his bumper when climbing hills. Of course the Mustang is heavier, naturally aspirated, and has way more drivetrain loss, so it's not that surprising.

Having said that, I test drove a new Mustang with the performance pack on it (dealer wanted $44k) several weeks ago. It's way more fun than the Type R between lights because it can actually put the power down. I just can't see paying that much for a Mustang though, it still had that super cheap Ford feeling that every Mustang I've ever driven has. Might be worth picking up a used one and let someone else overpay.

But can it go straight without pulling to the left? :hmm:
