Hey guys,

I've been struggling to find the root cause to my rear hatch leaking whenever it rains. As the story goes, within the last couple months I've been finding small amounts of water in the well where the latch is as well as on the rear cargo mat. I've been to the dealer once already and they replaced the rear trunk seal under warranty, which obviously wasn't the solution. It really only does it whenever we get a good soaking rain, and it's definitely settling where the actual rear latch is. Any help would be much appreciated for when I see the dealer again.

Pictures were all taken on different days:

Look water come from the top of the cargo door not from the seal. From the wiper ? Or what else is bolted to this door ? light, deflector ?

I'll return to the dealer.
They tried the easiest solution and probably the most likely.
During a second visit they will look elsewhere and will probably find.

I've never seen my hatch leak, but a few ideas come to mind:

- Look at the drains that are located at the top of the tail light housings, on the inside rim of where the hatch door meets the car. I believe the water through these will drain somewhere behind the rear tires? Pour a little water down them and make sure they aren't clogged up.

- Look at the two rubber "stops" that are located on the bottom corners of the hatch door itself. These are adjustable by twisting them and maybe they need to be tightened clockwise to make the hatch door seal better when closed?

I just wanted to pop in and give a quick update on the problem. Although I haven't seen another case of this, the dealer determined that some of the weather stripping around the rear wiper/spoiler was letting water in. The parts were ordered, so I'll give a mored detailed order once everything is done later this week.

There was a girl on FB with the same issue. I think weatherstripping was her cause as well. I’ll try to find it.

Hey everyone! I wanted to post (hopefully) the final update on the hatch. My dealer ended up replacing the entire spoiler assembly, which ended up totaling over $700 that was covered under warranty. Thanks again for all the input. Here's the repair paperwork:

Replying to this old thread as I didn't find any more recent reports of this problem. That's a good thing -- but I'm having the same leak symptoms in my hatch. A few weeks ago I noticed a small amount of water in the latch recess but shrugged it off as maybe water from when I washed the car. But I noticed it again today -- hadn't had the hatch open in at least a week but we've been having daily rain over the past week.) Plus there was water in the grooves of my weathertech mat -- so something is not right. I don't find any moisture around the seal which is as saft and pliable as the day I got the car. Could be like this OP's situation: leaking thru the rear wiper or spoiler. Happily my car is still under original warranty so I'll take it to the dealer and report back.

@SpringRubber Same issue here. My water appeared to have grease mixed around the area and turns to a crusty film in the latch area. Can’t imagine the spoilers bad just the seals. Rear spoiler was pulled to tint about a year ago. Did you figure it out?

Did a water test with the hose not a drop of water:(

@FK718 Any more water making it to the latch after Honda did that work?

Just had this issue on my wife's 2018. Fixed under warranty. Honda said the center mount for the lower spoiler wasn't sealed properly. Noticed they also put more sealant around the wiper too.

Thanks 860_CTR! Did they have to pull the spoiler to fix the leak on the center mount?

yeah it says they pulled the lower spoiler off to seal the hole.
