So turn by turn worked fine till a few days ago - I have a Pixel XL and a 2018 SI. Ive removed and added my phone back via bluetooth (shouldnt matter), I have uninstalled and reinstalled Android Auto, and I have removed Google Maps update and added it back all while restarting the phone between all these processes.

I saw someone else post this on reddit but no one had any resolution - I can use Waze but I cant stand that app, it will constantly turn my music down every 5 seconds for about 2 seconds. Im not dealing with that.

The car will say waiting on smart phone when I go to the separate page in the cluster for it, and of course I dont get the turn by turn when im on any other page on the cluster.

Interesting, I have a Pixel 2 XL and used Navigation extensively this weekend via AA and didn't have any issues. Was there some sort of Google Maps or AA update that perhaps broke things? If so, you could always revert GM and AA back a revision by going to apkmirror.

After doing all kinds of things what worked was to uninstall Google maps (it only removes the updates) and this morning it worked again. So it seems like the latest update killed the feature for our cars.

I can verify what Blindeye said. "Uninstall" Google Maps (actually, only the updates will uninstall, leaving the app still fully functional) and the turn-by-turn returns. :)

Driving fast, twisty highway cloverleafs to various assignments, a peripheral glance at the turn-by-turn is often what keeps me on track. Averting my head down to interpret a map is simply not an option in those cases and never will be. So turn-by-turn adds a significant layer of safety and practicality to GPS (as does the voiced audio cue system). It's a feature I would sorely miss if it was "updated" out, and I hope Honda engineers address the compatibility issue with the app they designed and advertised the system to work with.

Thanks again, Blindeye!

So mine used to say waiting for navigation. Now it is just blank and I get no notifications in the cluster.

I just picked up my 2019 SI on Friday, so to be fair, I've never seen it work.

I'm guessing the turn by turn feature in the cluster is only for android auto ???

Same issue. Running Maps version 10.6.1 and AA version 3.8. Though I'm sure is the problem with maps. Just reported it to Google. Let's see if that helps.

Suggestion:

This is specifically for Android - I have no experience with Apple IOS systems.

Turn OFF auto-updates on your phone.

Then, when there are updates, you can pick & choose what ones you want to update.

You can go a step further, if so inclined.

If an App is updated, and you get that update, it is often difficult to find and go back to the previous version that was working fine for you.

Get the APK Exporter app, and then you can make exported copies of the key Apps you want backup up.
Also, with APPManager, you can get the VERSION of the key apps .. Key apps being the ones you use with Android Auto, including Android auto itself.

Once you have this list of the Apps and their Version numbers, you can easily check next time something starts to go wrong, if any of those apps have updated.
Then at least you have the option of Uninstalling that updated app, and re-installing the Exported one that worked.

YES - I KNOW -- We should not need to have to do this, but its far easier and less stressful to do this, than try to get Google to fix anything, or even be able to put into works exactly what has gone wrong.

TAKE CONTROL ... "God helps those that help themselves" :)

It is not usual I can add value to these forums, but maybe today............

My AA stopped a few weeks ago. I had no idea why the car would not see the phone. I tried every trick / tip I could find. Then, completely by mistake (a different search for another question) I found out about the setting ON THE RADIO itself. In the settings there is a screen that shows ENABLE / DISABLE for AA. Ha. It is counter-intuitive though. Meaning it shows DISABLE, not DISABLED. But, it means DISABLED, at least on my car. So, I hit it, it turned to ENABLE. And it worked. Has worked ever since. Perfectly. All my apps are updated.

So, I wonder if an update flipped that switch some how? I never knew this screen even existed even after uninstalling and reinstalling. No doubt I could have messed it up, but if I did, others may have too. So in that spirit, I share my story.
