I had my Apple Ipad on sleep mode and my wife's smart phone was in her pocket. We walked through a parking lot and I pointed to a Maserati SUV I saw, and mentioned it to her. Next time I used my tablet it had Maserati SUV ads all over.

Yes. Specifically with iOS (probably Android too), if you give an app microphone permission it can "listen" while the app is backgrounded. But you can completely revoke an app's microphone access in Settings.

It's not Apple that's listening. It's Facebook or Snapchat or whatever app has permission and has something implemented to do it.

I am surprised that this is not a more well known thing. There is no privacy anymore. If you have any smart device, camera, phone, smart tv, etc in your home... it is or can be monitored via audio/video and meta data for a multitude of reasons. Generally it is to target ads though. Big brother is here... its been here for years... and we gave up our right to privacy with it. :dunno:

The thing I find most ridiculous is that people are paying to put these spy devices in their homes!

I have no idea why they even do this...I could give less than a dam to ads.

The most BS invention to rob peoples wallets. Amazon is a monopolized money-magnet.
I hate voice recognition. Everything that thing can do, so can my phone.
