Where I live (NJ) premium gas runs about 40-50 cents a gallon above regular, which I think would be a dealbreaker for me in terms of the Si. I know it only adds up to a couple hundred bucks a year, but that would be enough to annoy me. Problem is that I would love to have a manual with the turbo, and the Si is now the only way to do that. When I buy I'm probably going to go EX sedan (if I can get past the crappy infotainment, which I haven't been able to do yet). I just don't see the value of getting the coupe vs the sedan.

$$$ for $$$ The Si is just about impossible to beat with so many options included like the sunroof. With that being said I bought the Sport Hatchback (manual) . I just stepped out of a Si that I bought new in 09 and put 250k on it, I wanted the Hatchback for utility I just wish I could of had more options offered with the Manual Transmission like the Sport Plus Hatchback sold in Europe.

Agreed i choose the Si for the same reasons, also i have a very stop and go commute about 35 miles oneway the clutch is very easy and light on our cars so manuel is not too bad at all to deal with. Also something else to consider besides the better seats, LSD, adjustable shocks, larger brakes, better type r bushings, different rear sway bar, different trailing arms rear, and i believe different front upper control arms front (some of these bushings and suspension parts are shared with the type r) In addition to all that, the main reason i went for the SI is that the connecting rods and turbo are also different from the turbo civic, a few on the base (not many) have had rod issues when running a fair amount of boost, since i knew i would be getting a Hondata protuner and adding boost the slightly stronger rods and better turbo combined with the resale sealed it for me to go head and get the SI over the sport. I actually wanted a sport auto but after driving both i knew the SI was the one. Whatever you choose both are good cars, The only downsides i see with mine is 1st. the infotainment/heater controls are awful as you have to switch screens to adjust blower speed and their is no volume knob its buttons on the wheel or screen, this can be fixed by retrofitting a new base unit in for the fan speeds or get the 2019 SI where they also are now doing this. 2nd the clutch in the manuels simply is not strong enough to take much boost so you will want to budget for a new stronger clutch on either car sport or si if you plan of getting a tuner on it. Good luck !

Sounds like decisions have already been made but I wanted to comment on the coupe as a family car... I took my kids (currently 10 and 12 years old) in to the dealer with me to see how they fit in the back seat. In true Civic form there is immense amounts of space in the back seat. I think I even sat back there for a minute at the dealership and was ok with it, at 6"3" or so... I really, really like the look of the coupe and was very pleased to see the family fit well in it. When my kids get too tall to fit they'll probably be driving themselves places anyway. That being said, if they were babies I wouldn't want to try to climb back there every time to load their car seats in, except when mine were babies we had a base that got buckled in and the seat kind of snapped into place, so maybe it wouldn't be too bad.

I have the 17 Si with 13K and it's a great car with plenty of room in the back seat, esp. compared to other compact cars. However great a car it is I'd rather have the Civic Sport because I'm just a practical guy by nature. The Si definitely has the best seats, I wonder if you can buy these seats and put them in the Sport? If so that would be the way to go!

The Hatch on the other hand is the most practical car, it has the most room, and you can tune it to get close to the 200hp of the si, but it will never be an si. However, the reason i didn't go sport, even though it had paddle shifters, is that it has like no features. The non-apple car play radio is AWFUL. So basically it comes down to, do you want manual, or is auto an option.
Also the Si Infotainment sucks, which would be ok if you could replace it with a aftermarket Kenwood or Pioneer. The Sport Hatch's crummy radio can be replaced, which would be FANTASTIC! I'm on a mission to get rid of my Si for a Sport Hatch.

Part of me always wonders if I should've got the sport hatch instead too but I can't see any way to flip my Si for a hatch without eating a big loss. Also I think I would miss the suspension on the Si a lot. And on top of that the Sport hatch in Canada has the same infotainment as the Si. But yeah the infotainment in the Si is a joke. I'm hoping eventually there are some aftermarket options.

The real benefit of the sport hatch is that it's a hatch. Si should've been hatch/coupe, not sedan/coupe.

I'm really surprised people hate the Si Infotainment. maybe I'm wrong but I assumed SI had the same as what's on the EX and since you can use apple car play i don't know how the infotainment could be bad. really everything runs via apple car play, and that's basically all i use.

The touchscreen is slow and unresponsive. I mostly use CarPlay as well but sometimes I'm lazy to pull my phone out of my pocket and just want to listen to FM radio for a short drive. Try switching from the "your phone isn't connected" black screen over to FM radio and changing the station to one of your presets in as few button presses/as little time as possible. Now try it again while you have gloves on because it's winter. Lots of cars manage to have Apple CarPlay but also have physical buttons and not take a full second to transition between screens. The Civic's infotainment is inferior.

It's slow(probably due to low memory tks Honda) and sometimes goes blank. Also, the output is incredibly weak so it needs an Amp. My friend has a Honda Ridgeline and it's much better but who wants to be forced to use stock crap with no free upgrades? In 2-3 years, if not TODAY, it's horribly outdated along with the myriad of problems from being weak in the first place.

The only problem I have with the infotainment is that it can be ungodly slow at times. I hit the climate control button and sometimes i have to wait like 3-5 seconds before anything comes up on the screen. It's really bad. Not bad enough to trade in for a new car but it's annoying. Can't expect much with out dated hardware and android 4.0

This i agree with. Literally the reasons I went EX instead of SI or Sport was 1) i wanted a hatch and 2) i wanted some features (heated seats, apple car play). The only package that had that was the EX hatchback. Si hatchback would have been perfect and its a shame they didn't make it. I think towards the end of this gen it will be a thing once they realize the R just isn't selling because of dealer markups here.
