Proud owner of a new Type R. Choice was between STI and this but I just thought the Type R offered more for the money. To get all the bells and whistles (GPS, premium audio) in the STI would have cost in the 40's. I also happened to pick this up at less than MSRP which is awesome.

Did some research on here and decided to order Continental DSW 06's 245/35/20. I'm in the Philly area - snow isn't as bad as it is in somewhere like the northeast but we definitely get it. My commute to work is also only about 6 miles. I figured it would just be easier not downsizing the wheels and getting the DSW's knowing I will lose some traction. How much performance loss should I expect? I don't intend on pushing this thing to its limits during the winter. But by May I will definitely put the sportcontact 6's back on and whip this thing around. I figured the DSW's are the best all around choice for my situation.

This happens to be my first sports car. Learned stick on a 07 Civic LX years ago. Then later upgraded to a 2014 Accord Touring which has decent power, but missed manual transmission and the accord was getting a bit boring. I also just got my wife a VW alltrack so the utility of the accord was no longer necessary. I've loved driving this thing around - simply amazed at how it handles! Whipped around a 15mph curve at about 50MPH and this thing had no troubles at all.

Welcome aboard - I’m in the Philly area too and I swapped out my tires for DWS 06es. You will feel a loss of grip but I can still fly around those 270 degree highway ramps at about 60, which is 3x the advisory speed. Honestly though it still gives you a surprising amount of grip for an all season. You are easily able to have spirited drives with them on.

Just put in the DSW all seasons, and I have to say things have definitely improved. I bought the car with the Sportcontact 6's and the best temps I have had since was mid 40's. No longer are my wheels sometimes spinning at 4500+ RPM's.

Now I can't wait to put the summers back on come around May.

@eshults5 That shit sounds scary with these cold temperatures. I play all the time in the warmer weather but I don't have enough faith in the car and myself to whip around corners during this time of year. But, I am sitting on ps4s so I'm sure my traction is super limited in the cold.

Even the DWSa start to feel hard in <20 F degree weather.

I don’t run the Type-R in winter but have had these tires on a bunch of other sporty cars for years.

Once I went full winter tires though (which was cheaper btw, even in the long run) It felt invincible in single digits and in snow. Rubber was always soft and quick to warm up.

I’d urge anyone to also consider full winters since your seasonally changing the tires anyway.

Hmm yea, I may get smaller wheels and winter tires whenever these DSW 06's wear out. It may be a while since my commute to work is only about 6 miles anyway and I'll probably be working from home alot in February, so shouldn't see too much sub 20 weather. It's garaged everytime I'm not at work.

The 20 inch Perellis were just way too expensive but the 18 inch wheel + winter route seems about as pricey as getting 20 inch all seasons.

Also considering a membership at a car wash to help with the salt and grime. There's a place near me that does unlimited washes for $21/month..not too bad.

It's a seriously bad idea to drive in the winter without snow tires if you have inclement weather where you live. The issue isn't the driver, but the tires becoming essentially blocks of wood when the temperature gets low enough. (summer tires have a softer rubber compound)

Here is a sobering video for anyone not aware of what the difference is for real life stopping winter vs summer tires -

Be safe out there guys!! Not worth the car or your safety to limp by over a winter with summer tires if you're up north.
