I recently noticed a small gap between my wing spoiler and the trunk lid (not noticeable unless you bend down to look at it). Took it to a Honda dealer and they said it was installed properly but it looked like someone leaned on it and need to have parts replaced to secure the spoiler.

I got my coupe about 1.5 years ago from another Honda dealer and the wing spoiler was OEM/installed at the dealer when I purchased my car. I always park very far away from other cars to avoid getting door dings. Since my car is usually far away from everything, it is not likely that anyone would walk all the way just to lean on my spoiler. Also, I only run my car through touchless car washes or have it hand washed.

My guess is that it wasn't installed properly to begin with and I only noticed it now. If that's the case, then why would the dealer lie about it since they already said it would be covered by the warranty?

Is it possible that Honda dealers don't know how to properly install a wing spoiler? Would leaning on a spoiler actually make it become loose? Or could the touchless car wash actually damage the wing spoiler? It is my first car with a spoiler and I'm very concerned if the spoiler is that fragile! Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Sorry to hear about the spoiler. I'm getting one next week on my new car , so that will be something I double check.
Unfortunately, dealers will sometimes just say whatever they want, and having come across one that didn't know how to do an oil change correctly, among other stuff, it wouldn't surprise me if they installed it incorrectly :(

1st think that came into my head when I read this --

Can't think of anything more basic than an oil change.
All the dealer has to do is remove the little sticker in the window and put a new one there, and then present you with a bill.

Oh, and dribble a little oil by the oil filler !!! Really ? They forgot to do that ??

The worst one I heard 1st hand from a work college that happened to him.
Took care to Dealer for oil change.
They drained the old oil, fitted a new Filter, and then returned the car to him ( without filling again with oil) -- I kid you not !!!

I believe it.in my case it was overfilled, they bent the undersheild all up and left it hanging and didn't put one of the screws back in even after taking it back to fix it all. Told me it was ok to overfill the oil, it would burn off through the off valve.
So I totally believe they might not have installed the 0P's spoiler correctly.

Thanks for the responses!

As it turned out, after attempting to fix the issue by replacing spoiler clips and failed, the dealership now finally admits that the spoiler was indeed installed incorrectly (holes on the trunk lid were drilled out too large). Now, the entire trunk lid needs to be replaced and they wouldn't replace it because they are not the dealership that installed the spoiler initially... I'm now contacting American Honda to try to resolve this issue.

For anyone in the Albany, NY area trying to get a wing spoiler installed, don't do it at Lia Honda. Apparently, they do not know how to do it correctly.

I would think that because a dealer did install it,that it should fall under warranty ,therefore the dealer that you took it to would be able to be reimbursed for a new trunk from Honda.
I've been finding out the last year, through all my issues and arbitration ,that these dealers are able to do whatever they want and need to be held more accountable by Honda.

I thought so, too. Apparently, according to American Honda, because it is a craftsmanship issue caused by the dealership, it is not covered under Honda warranty and the dealership that did the initial installation is responsible. American Honda is unwilling to do anything to help with this issue...

I live very far from the dealership that did the installation. Now I have to see if they are willing to cover the cost and let me have it fixed at my local dealership. This is not going to be an easy ride.

I think I would argue the fact that you had an oem part installed by an agent of Hondas , I realize the dealers aren't owned by Honda and can do whatever they want, but Honda should be willing to help you with this. If not, I would be calling the better businesses bureau on both Honda and the dealer.
I mean, if you think about it, Honda isn't going to recommend you have a part like that anywhere else other than one of their dealers, yet they don't be responsible for what they do to your car. I guarantee , this is the last Honda I buy.
