What the heck is a straight drive? Completely unrelated, but I'll have a coke, what kind of coke you ask, a Sprite.
Ha. I just made a comment about it. Tbe only folks I've heard refer to it as a straight drive were folks from the Carolinas.

@Muggsy

That's funny. I bout threw myself through the windshield of my mom's old automatic accord a few times years ago cause I'd be searching for the clutch pedal. When I'd find the "clutch" pedal I'd go to a sliding stop!

The only time I hate driving it is during stop and go traffic. I prefer manual for MOST sports cars but not all. It truly depends on the type of car. I think if I was lucky enough to have some modern super cars then I'd like to have them in auto. I'd prefer manual for high end camaros, mustangs, corvettes etc.

My last 4 cars have all been manual, so if I do drive my girlfriend's car or a rental when I travel, I find myself unconsciously reaching for the shift knob while pushing in the clutch pedal that isn't there when it is time to shift. The short amount of time of just pushing the gas petal in the automatic is a nice change of pace, but it is always nice to get back to my manual car.

The one time I drove a right hand drive manual car, I kept trying to reach with my right hand to shift, which made it look like I was trying to open the door.

From NC, lived here my whole life and never called it straight but I'd pick up on the term easily if someone said it. To the OP - before buying the R I had a hatch sport MT and an audi S4 dsg. The audi had half the 0-60 time and the dual clutch was superior in every performance metric imaginable.. but I wanted to drive the hatch. The audi was an automated tool that was perfect every time whereas the hatch was a manual tool you needed to master and gave a sense of accomplishment when you got it right. Maybe I'm strange but I'd rather be doing something in traffic than nothing, granted I really cant complain about the traffic around here compared to dc, atl, la, etc. Then I may understand

I emigrated to the US from the UK about 20 years ago and have mostly driven automatics here. Flights to the UK from the East coast generally have you arriving early in the morning UK time. When I sit in the rental car this tired idiot is faced with two problems: (1) recalling which side of the road to drive and (2) quickly getting proficient at driving straight drive (love that term!) and doing it properly on the wrong side of the car.....

At least my fancy new Type R should help a little with Problem 2....

Had an Accord V6 Touring prior to the CTR and it just got boring, for as much as I liked that engine. Wish they had offered that in a MT.

CTR is life changing for me. Every commute to work feels exhilarating. I missed driving stick after a few years, even when sometimes sitting in traffic. It was enjoyable even in my 07 Civic LX. I'm in my early 30's though and far away from constant aches and pains.

No, I will always prefer a manual transmission as long as they are an option. I tend to get very tired quickly when driving automatics

When I had to drive the automatic Corolla as a rental a few weeks ago I literally felt soulless in it. The moment I got back into my CTR... I felt my soul come back. Only a single week break made me realize how much I truly love my car.

Sure, I’m not the best at it, and I still have moments where I completely lock up on what to do, but the engagement it offers far outweighs the negatives of having to deal with congestion and whatnot.

To think - 2 years ago I was anti manual, convinced automatics were just better in every regard. Well, they sure aren’t better at providing a true connection with the car. If that means being slower to 60 and having a slightly worse fuel economy...so be it.
