Civic Sport Touring Hatch vs Corolla XSE hatch.

In summary : The Civic is more sporty but more raw and less comfortable.

They would appeal to two different audiences.
The Civic to an enthusiast.
The Corolla to a young person who wants something to look a little bit sporty, but is more interested in comfort and value.

Let me sum it up.

Civic is fun. Corolla is not. ;)

It's a cool car! Toyota is definitely stepping up their game. It'll be interesting to see if they introduce a TRD Corolla.

It's a cool looking car!
There, I fixed it for ya.

The only thing I find cool about the Corolla is the fact the CVT has an actual 1st gear for quicker takeoffs.

the Civic hatch is a shockingly large car. I know the dimensions don't prove it but they did something to make it large since my fiancee's focus is a few inches shorter but massively smaller on the inside. Plus the corolla, while not bad, just drives like a corolla.

I test drove Corolla HB although with CVT. Its a slow, heavy behemoth. Its comfortable though and has all the right features - except power. I would still love to take a crack at one with manual trans.

I find it interesting that hatchbacks are making a comeback. Just looking at the Toyota and Honda side by side in the picture, the Toyota just looks boring. The Honda has far more character.

Compared to the Touring, missing ....
Auto Bright Headlights
Power Seats
12 speakers and subwoofer
And I like the layout better on the center console in the Civic. I have had a Toyota in the past. Not a bad car but when I sit in a Civic, well, much just comes down to personal preference.

Same with the Mazda 3. We test drove one for my daughter. It felt very cheap and small inside compared to the Civic.

Looked at the corolla hatchback at the dealer. I find the rear seat and cargo is cramped.

The only good thing is that Toyota has dual port injection and will not suffer from carbon buildup. In the rumor mill Honda’s next engines for the civic will also be dual port turbo maybe 2020 2021???

The Corolla is a missed opportunity, strap a turbo to that thing Toyota and you got yourself a game changer with the manual trans option.
