Anyone run 245/40/20 tires instead of the 30 series?

How about 245/40/20 tires on the stock 20" rims and stock suspension? Anyone know if this will fit (real world use, 3 passengers, crappy California roads, etc.) any bumping or rubbing in the wheel wells? Would love the extra 1" of ground clearance - my driveway ramp is tearing up my stock front spoiler something awful.

only one way to find out!~ but honestly I dont think it will fit well, especially not with 3 passengers. Im sure it will rub. If you are trying to save money and not get another set of wheels, I think I would go with the 245/35 and get some wood planks for a make shift ramp for your drive way. The car at stock height atleast for me has more than enough clearance for typical speed bumps and daily driving. I downgraded myself to some 19x9.5 wheels from VMR, a cheap alternative for a good quality set of wheels. and went with 265/35 tires. Imo, the 35 series tires are more than enough to deal with pot holes and the like. Ive noticed a marked improvement in daily driving conditions. California roads cant be worse than the roads we have here on the east coast with all the salt just eating away at the pavement and asphalt year after year.

If it helps I have been running 245/35/20 Goodyear Eagle Sport A/S on the stock wheels for a few hundred miles now with no issues at all. I had to switch to all-season for Winter but also wanted a bit more rubber between the wheel & road surface. So far so good.

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't think it'd rub assuming you're on stock suspension as well. That's going to be a really tall tire on a 20" wheel though and is going to mess with the driving dynamics of the car. I've heard of a few members (like the guy above) going up to a 35 series without any issues, that'd be as tall as I think would be reasonable.

Thanks All! It sounds like 245/35/20 will be the way I go. That only gives just over 1/2 an inch of ground clearance, but hopefully that will be enough. My driveway is hell. I already have a steel ramp but I still have trouble. I may look into getting a bigger steel ramp as I think there is still too much of a dip between the street and the driveway. I appreciate all the feedback!

@OP this is an option that I looked into at one point when I owned a Shelby GT350R (much lower clearance stock than the CTR):

A little pricey but great reviews. I got by using 45deg or wider angled approach entering my driveway....but I’m lucky to live on a cul de sac and have that option.

Not the type of driveway curb we have - but great idea and I can see others make "curb ramps" that may work, some even on Amazon. Will check this out further, thank you!
