I didn't have to pull the pillar to run the cord. I used a small plastic poker to tuck the wire into the pillar and under the door rubber trim down to the floorboard and under the dash to the center console. It can be tucked up top behind the headliner as well without pulling anything.
Thank you, was it easy to tuck behind the door trim rubber? I have never looked to see what kind of space there is behind there

The piece on the inside of the door is wide enough that it can sit behind it with no issue. Mine doesn't have a bulge in it where I ran the cord. I will see about getting a pic shortly

Does anyone know if running the wire to the rear cam (on top of the window using the plastic) will interfere with the side airbag deployment?

Go back to the inside of your car and notice the left interior where the D pillar trim panel meets the headliner. This is where you will pass the rear camera's wire through. The headliner is flexible so just kind of force your way in, push the wire through and up into the backside of the hole pictured above, then with your other hand reach into the hole left by the rubber tube removed a few steps ago and pull the wire.

Would hiding excess wire behind this panel be a bad idea for the airbag deployment?

(I'm unable to fit my L-shape mini-USB connector through the tubing into the hatchdoor plastic for cable management.)

Here is a pic of the pillar rubber pulled back. There is a space in there the line can run. Just be careful up at top. I ran it where it wont interfere with airbag should it deploy.

This is a good post.

Just saved me some head scratching on where to stash all these cables. Thanks a ton!

Best place to store excess wire would be the panel above the rear camera. There's nothing there and plenty of room.

I'm also concerned about the wire running behind the plastic panel in the back with the Side Curtain Airbag label. I've already done it months ago, but now just noticed that it might interfere with that airbag ever deploying. Any comments?

Does anyone have a diagram of the side airbag there?

I had an L shaped miniUSB connector too and had a hard time getting it thru. Ended up using a few drops of cooking oil and a lot of persistent, gradual "scooches" thru the rubber cable management, and it worked! Hopefully that helps

major thanks to OP for this guide.

routing the rear cam cable through the rubber cable housing was a major pain in the ass. i had a much easier time ziptying the micro usb connector to its cable so that it creates a loop, then routing a ziptie through the rubber cable housing first and then pulling it through. same process to get the connector through the hatch shell.

Just wrapped up this install on my 2019 EX hatch, thanks for the great write-up. The worst part by far was getting the rear dash cam wire run.

Suggestion for future people reading this thread: a tiny bit of bulb grease on the plastic part of the USB cable makes a world of difference when you are trying to run it through the rubber hose to the hatchback lid. I wouldn't say it was easy, but the little bit of bulb grease definitely made it easier.

I wanted to share the installation of a rear camera, since thats the most difficult and notorious.
At first when looking at tackeling the black rubber tube, I thought, this is going to either take a lot of time and frustration or some genuine Macgyver insights.

But to be honest, I managed to feed the cable through the black tube in about 5 minutes or so, no guiding cable, no lube, no nothing!
I think I was lucky that the connection point of the cable was rather thick, because that allowed me to push the cable bit by bit pushing from the outside, and thus I worked my way slowely towards the other side 0:)

This method looked already like a bad idea with the pointy steel tip, to be pushed blindly into a tight rubber tube full of electrical cables, so we left that path

I contacted 5 differend Honda dealers around my neighborhood, but so far only one replied (its Saterday afternoon now here) stating they dont have such clips in stock o_O
But they could be ordered...I would think a dealer has such clips in abundance....:dunno:

I told him not to bother (I'll await reply of my own dealer and the 3 others, with any luck I can finish the job today)

So yesterday evening one of the dealers said he would leave the clip for the trim panel outside his dealership, so I picked it up, how cool is that! :)

EDIT:
Finished today! clean and slick
