I got the si spare tire kit installed. While it is nice to know i now have a spare tire, I am not sure I like giving up so much room in the trunk. I cannot fit some stuff I normally put in there.

Where did you get it?! I've been on hold with HondaPartsOnline.com since freakin' February...

As for space, I've been carrying around the spare tire (tire only) in the trunk to see if I should just go with that, instead of buying the whole kit and raising the floor... The jury's still out on that.

If you bought a civic. And are worried about trunk space.... you bought the wrong car. Spare tire all the way is a must. Next SI i see with a flat on the road, ill give him a honk. Hopefully its not the anti spare tire people lol.

I had my Civic Sport hatch for 2 months before I blew out a tyre in a water-filled pothole, the car came with a fix-a-flat kit which doesn't work for blowouts so I had to get towed. When I bought the car my dealer said no spare was available but he didn't do the research. I was able to source a spacesaver spare from a UK-based Honda parts dealer. The kit raises the trunk floor about 2.5 inches but I think it's worth it. I don't carry the fix-a-flat kit anymore

Man... This spare tire issue has bothered me since May 2017, as soon as the 10th gen Si specs came out. Then I posted this, 2 weeks before I bought my Si... that didn't go anywhere. Then the order mentioned above, that I placed back in February '18, kept getting delayed by Honda month after month after month.

Finally a few days ago I cancelled it and pulled the trigger on the wheel, jack+tools, and the foam insert for the coupe (which is much less bulky/looks much better than the sedan's), and it got delivered within just a couple of days.

Total w/shipping was a pretty manageable $294.90

(Bought the tire earlier from tirerack.com; had it installed on the wheel at NTB for $27.)

So first I kept the spare just laying around in the trunk, but it was sliding around during acceleration/maneuvering. Then this morning I took out the trunk cover and the original foam insert under it (with the inflation kit), the tire fit right into the well that was designed for it, and that of course put a stop to the sliding issue. Pretty sure I'm gonna keep it this way. May not look as pretty or "proper", but I don't really care how my trunk looks inside, as long as it's clean and functional -- and with this setup it is both. I believe this to be the least space-consuming solution possible for carrying the spare; it barely sticks above the trunk floor level, and the rest of the well can be used for tools and such.

So, I'm finally a happy camper now -- my baby got (spare in the) back!! :)

Considering how little a spare, jack & associated goods are used, I’d be looking in a boneyard for take outs from a wrecked 8th or 9th gen...
Likely way less than $300.

Thought about it, but wanted to stick to OEM parts (the wheel). It's just my OCD :)

I just posted this on a different thread, you may find this useful.
Well, I'm finally done with buying and installing the spare tire kit for my Si sedan.
The part was on back order for a few months, every time I called them I was told that they had supplier issues.
I placed the order on 9/1/2018 and it was delivered on 11/23.
I paid $317.39 including shipping to Fairfax, VA. On which I received a $50 refund. No idea why.

Unfortunately, the spare wheel adapter was slightly damaged in delivery, so I ordered a new one from eBay $9.70

The tire itself was T125/70D-17 FALKEN FK-090 SL which I got from tire rack for $59.15. This thing sat in storage for 2 months before the kit showed up. Both were ordered on the same day.

Lastly, At the gas station opposite my house, mounting the tire to the rim was $15.

Here are a few photos of the final install.
The only downside, trunk space is significantly lesser. But if I need trunk space I will just use my Honda Pilot.

Its interesting how much higher the tire and jack tool tray sits, i had considered it myself for the time being i have AAA gold and fix a flat slime brand. I keep a cordless impact gun in the truck, i still might grab a spare for long trips and the jack from LQK parts online, local junk yard or ebay.

I can imagine AAA turning up to help change a wheel, or even to help with the foam inflater, but I cannot see them being able to turn up with a suitable wheel for any car.
Even if they do, at what price.. service may be FREE, but parts & supplies are not.

If you have your own spare, then if you can change it, you are back on the road in as little as 10 minutes. If AA changes your spare tire for you, you have to wait for them to turn up, that could be some considerable time.

The extra weigh is well worth the security and independence (to me at least).
If you are that worried about the extra weight, only fill your gas up to 75%, to compensate for the spare tire !!! (Or skip a few Big Macs and Fries).

For all those complaining about wanting MORE POWER, if you really "want" all that extra power, get Daddy to buy you a bigger, faster car next time.:headbang:

here is a quick video I made a while back when I put my spare in if you guys want to take a look at it
Nice video, and I 100% agree with you.

Adding a Rubber Truck floor mat (or whatever it is called), does add to the strength of the floor.
Also, I added a small diameter Bungee cord across the top, attached between the two Hinges.
This allows you to lift up the flimsy floor, and secure it open, tucked into the bungee line, while you access the tools & spare wheel.

Since I fitted the spare wheel kit very soon after getting the car, I did not get use to the extra space, that was lost with the kit. I think it's only about 2 inches of height lost, which to me is not such a big deal.
Our other car is a Nissan Maxima Wagon, so that has plenty of space, a roof rack, and a tow bar, so for things like trips to Home Depot, is the car of choice to "cart" a lot of "stuff".
The Maxima's spare wheel floor is 3/8 ply. You can easily sit on it and it does not even bend. Does weigh a bit more, as do most things on the Maxima, compared with the Honda.
Built like a BattleShip, and drives like a Boat, but has the advantage of not feeling every small bump on the road and it was paid off many, many year ago, so no payments !!

I wonder why the Canadian Si got a spare and the US didn’t. Same deal as the LED headlights? Price point?
