This is not yet another oil dilution thread......

My MM is at 30% oil life left now.

When I pulled out the dipstick, the oil was almost up to the top of the orange tab. This I expected because the lube express mechanic slightly overfilled at the last oil change.

I see that there are long oil streaks above the dipstick, but, not for 1/4" or so just above the orange tab. Because that 1/4" above the orange tab has no oil stain, I am reading that those oil streaks on the metal stick are just picked up from the dipstick coming up the tube.

Because if my oil level were truly super high, I'd see oil in the 1/4" just above the orange tab. Unless, I am mistaken, which is why I am asking here.

Also. when the dipstick was pulled out, I did not smell gasoline. I ride 2 stroke dirt bikes and know what gas smells like.

Ok so when reading a dipstick have a napkin ready. Make sure the oil is cold, so like check it in the morning.
1st pull - don’t bother reading this wipe it dry throughly with the napkin making sure to throughly dry the orange part and above. Insert back in

2nd pull- now you can read it it should be within the orange and the max is the 2nd notch. No oil should be above the orange.

This is what I usually do. So I attached a picture of the procedure I did. Dipstick was wiped off first and re-inserted and pulled out.

In the picture, red shows oil on dipstick metal which I have till now understood to be just stray oil in the dipstick tube being picked up. This cannot possibly be crankcase overloaded with oil, can it?

If you zoom into the
blue part you'll see that there's no oil there. Weird, if the crankcase was overloaded with oil then I'd expect to see more oil there.

Yellow part shows the blob of oil that beads to the bottom of the dipstick.

Also I did not smell the dipstick, it's a bad idea to do that imo, but I also did not catch the odour of gas in the air when the dipstick was near me.

I also opened up the oil fill cap and didn't see sludge or anything there and while that was open I did not smell gas either.

Yours too, huh?
I don’t have any odour of fuel either when checking oil level, but I my 30km one way highway run to work probably doesn’t hurt.
