Hi

I am trying to compare two Civic's. Both are the Touring trim. I understand the Hatchback is made in the UK and the Sedan is made in Canada. Some videos describe the Hatchback as having a European feel much like a Audi A3?

Can anyone comment is there any handling difference?

As far as equipment, the Hatchback stereo has 100 more watts but lacks the Homelink (Garage door opener buttons in the rear view mirror) that is standard on the Sedan. (Touring Models)

I like the style of the Hatchback. Trying to come up with a list of Pros & Cons. And yes compared this to other similar cars Mazda 3, Volkswagen, Toyota and so on. I test drove the Hatchback and loved it but I have not driven the Sedan.

Thanks
Bill

I'd go hatchback though more room, it's different, better color choices, but I'd check out the ilx with tech package it is based on the civic platform. Acura has killer incentives on them right now.

I went with the Sport Touring Hatch over the Touring Sedan not only because you get more cargo room, but also a little more oomph with exhaust (180hp in Sport Touring vs 174 in Touring Sedan). Also I love the colors, rims and the piano black grill that come with Hatch - I'm not a huge fan of chrome.

As for handling, the Hatch is much more sporty yet comfortable, it's the best car I've ever owned! I get that aforementioned "oomph" and still get 36 miles per gallon! I did test drive the Sedan (I test drove a EX-T sedan as there were no Tourings on the lot but was told that they drive the same), it handles really well and compared to the sedan, it was much quieter on the road.

While the sport touring has 100 more watts with the stereo, it also boosts 12 speakers as opposed to the Touring sedans 10.

I had the exact same debate. I didn't realize the hatch is missing HomeLink. That seems like a silly omission. That is disappointing as I've already placed an order for a 2019 Sport Touring (my deposit is refundable, so I could change my mind). But overall, I am still happy with my decision, more cargo space, more horsepower, and this is subjective, but I like the looks of the hatch more.

I didn't list the sound system being better because it probably has the same watts per speaker (since it has 2 more speakers), and a larger area to fill with sound, so it's likely about the same. But if anyone has actually given the two and A/B test, please reply, that would be interesting to know. Having a larger air space could help with bass response.

I am leaning toward the Hatchback. I am sure one could add Homelink as there are videos where it has been added after the fact. Either car you really can't go wrong.
Thanks

Homelink is cool and all but do you ABSOLUTELY need it?

As far as Homelink is concerned, no. You can buy a key fob like the Honda one same size for garage. I have one in the wife's car armrest. And many choices for buttons for garage door to clip to visor. Only need one button. But many come with more. Long ago I had one button set for the Mother-in-law's house. Today just one button. So I don't need it.

I would be trading in a Mini Coupe S two seater that was only made for four years. Nice car but I like the cost of maintenance better on Honda. My last Accord was in the late 80's and is the size of the Civic. I like small cars but nice. Run flat tires are expensive. But I like a spare. Many care have a kit no spare. Where I drive and the miles I need a real spare. So that rules out the Mazda two seater. I drive 60 miles a day for my commute. I could afford more but why? BMW has expensive repair costs. Not many nice small luxury cars under 35K. Plus it is rated great. I miss having a Moonroof. Power seats would be awesome. And while controversial I like my music so a good stereo would be nice. Not much you can do there these days. Would prefer not to replace speakers but it is what it is.

Sounds like that Sport Touring hatch is calling your name! I have a long commute myself, but it's no big deal because of my ride! :)

I picked the hatchback over the sedan because the hp (lol), style, and cargo room. My prev car was an Accord coupe v6 so I never have thought I would buy the Civic until I saw the hatchback. On top of that, I've always wanted a station wagon like the RS4, but Audi doesn't offer that YET thus the hatchback is the alternative.

I just bought a Silver on Black 2019 HCT. Just got home, it is FANTASTIC.
Definite lag in low range but it crushes once rolling. Tint and small tune to remove initial lag. Love that 540w stereo , interface, bluetooth all the tech in the mirrors, cameras, leather smell , CVT was EXCELLENT . Drove the stick first and my leg hurt , lol so I opted for TOURING trim despite its weight. It moves out more than expected, haha averaged 9.6mpg first 10 miles.

HB is great all the way around

Thanks. About third tank of gas and 36 MPG. But I have not made out of Econ mode yet. No hurry, after all it is a Touring.

About the same as my Touring Coupe, I turn off the Econ until it's warmed up as when in Econ, tends to "lug a bit" when cold, now @ 1,000 miles, starting to run better, quieter, mileage in mixed driving also 36. I think the reason the Touring gets less mpg than the EX trim 1.5t, is the extra weight & the 235/40/18 tires have more drag friction than the 215/50/17's. Do like the extra do-dads the Touring has, the bigger tires don't ride as smooth, but cornering is scary good! Have become a enthusiastic user of Toptier fuel.
