Please read my post again, yes Honda produces more Honda Fit automobiles, so the CTR is more limited than another Honda economy car.
You said "I guess" implying question. I looked up the answer and relayed what I found.

I know the dealers are jumping on charging high ADMs again on the '19s but if Cargurus is any indication, the supply of new CTRs in the U.S. is higher than ever. There are almost 450 listings for new CTRs and almost a third are '19s. I quickly found a '19 VIN (not plaque) above 600 and VINs close to 5000 for the '18s so Honda is making plenty of these for the U.S. I know this isn't the real data on the number of cars available, but for reference, the number of '17s on Cargurus tended to be between 100-150 cars total.

I must be totally naive or something but I just don't get it anymore. They're sitting on '18s while '19s are arriving and the supply of cars is higher than ever. The ADMs now seem to be totally out of sync with supply/demand. If you were willing to pay ADM, wouldn't you have already done that by now?

Been keeping my eye on all of that as well and some dealers are slow to catch on that the party's over. There's no longer enough willing buyers to keep ADM that high. That's what I noticed when I finally pulled the trigger on one this weekend at MSRP. It's now the perfect storm of conditions to get one:

-High inventory
-Slower selling
-2018s need to be sold
-Holiday/End of month pricing
-Stock market causing financial turmoil (so less buyers) + Dec. Fed rate hike (better loan rate now)

For mine, I had initially negotiated a price but they didn't fully commit to it but they asked me to stop by. I knew I had them on the ropes, but I just had to get the knockout. Of course they tried their tactics but I told them my out the door price and stuck to it or I'll visit one of the other dealerships with the other 12 Type Rs in the area. Drove it out of there within 2 hours at MSRP + $250 due to tint.

Which dealer?

Texas based Honda still smoking crack - 5k markup on a 2018 sitting on the lot. It's almost 2019 and this car is going to be made for YEARS - man I hate dealerships ruining cars for the masses. Just sell it and move on so you get MORE to sell next year.

Just got quoted $49,995 for a 2018, LMFAO. These dealers need to get off their cloud about markup and act like they're doing you a favor by "only" charging 2-5k of markup. I've seen some ads on Cars.com that have the car priced at $34k, but it's a bait-and-switch tactic.

Honda of Fort Worth, the first initial impression was not good, but after I left a bad review, they contacted me back to make amends and it ended up working in my favor. Everyone there said I got the best deal they have seen at that dealership. And seeing as how it was MSRP*, I tend to believe them because all these other dealerships are hardballing all the way into the bottom of the 9th inning. It probably helped that I went there on Black Friday so maybe they had some sort of goal to hit for bonuses.

@MatadorCE which dealer was that? McDavid Honda of Irving had that price visible online and then hid it so I'm wondering if that's who you're talking about.

On a separate note, Rusty Wallis in Dallas is probably getting real worried with their Type R that has sat for 3 months now. Desperate enough to try calling me again after a month. They really must not have anyone willing to buy. Word of caution, their salesmen will probably tell you any blatant lie (like Honda ending production of the Type R in 2019).

There is probably a separate thread for this, but is there any indication that Honda will end production of the Type R in the foreseeable future? (You mention a blatant lie from Honda Salesreps regarding ending production)

Until we see proof, it's all just speculation. The Type R has been produced for a long time, just never really available in America on this scale. After this generation is over, will they bring it back? Now that they laid the groundwork and know how the market responded to it, I think it would be dumb not to from a business perspective. Of course, cost to produce (tariffs anyone?) and economic conditions will also determine what happens next.

^ 2.5 years of productions within 1 generation and then stop? I don't know... If anything, Honda will ride it all the way through its 10th gen before actually thinking of possibly stopping the CTR production. I mean going into its 2nd year makes that official IMHO

I think Honda, and the dealerships are idiots for allowing this markup BS. If you want to see if your car is getting traction in the US market - MAKE IT AVAILABLE FOR WHAT IT COSTS and make them in quantities to meet demand. All these greedy dealerships would have 3-4 sold instead of sitting on one like it's the charriot that drove Jesus around when he was meeting his peeps.

Same with every car manufacturer - We should see tons of GT350 mustangs running around - why not? It's reasonably priced -ish at 55k or just under, but no no, for the HONOR of driving this PHYNE AUTO - MOE - BEEL my fine young man, you need to shell out 65-70k.

It's so beyond stupid.

We should see Type R's running around all over imo. Price them well - stick to the price - and build them.

When Honda is fretting Type R sales numbers as being 'weaker than expected in some markets' they can look right at the room full of dealerships that stuck markups on because of the red seats.

Argh.

I'm still looking because I would love to own a piece of history. I have an RS right now, but as a JDM fan the CTR is something I've always wanted, but not at $40K

This was for a dealer in Gainesville, Florida since I now live in Florida. I actually got offered msrp out here after the dealer wanted about 4k over msrp for a white one but passed since I really want blue. I started laughing when I got the quote of $50k. I emailed them back and they were firm that they would not be selling at msrp; I don't know what they're thinking.

The nerve of these assholes too, mentioned to the guy I was talking to that this isn't limited edition, there are more on the way, and 19's are on the way and it's December, be reasonable on the 2018 they have - (I said it nicely) - never heard back rofl. Hold on to that markup until you drown in it I say. Would rather ride the bus.
