So the northwest Illinois region (along with others) got hit with a snow storm recently. No garage, so the care is stored outdoors. I'm not sure what is related or not, so I'll start from the beginning of today. In short, here's a TLDR version of the noise and direct actions leading up to the noise. Slipping the clutch in the morning may have helped the problem occur, but I'm not sure; read on to see if it matters?

Clutch in, shift into reverse, feels like it engaged. Let out clutch 10% (not to the biting point). Whining sound similar to sound an EV makes when it goes. Engine shoots to about 1100-1200 RPM. Clutch back in, RPMs drop to idle. Back to neutral; reverse felt half engaged (felt engaged when I put it in) when taking it out. Clutch out. Clutch in, reverse, and everything is fine.

Got my car cleaned up but couldn't get it to go. I put it in reverse, let out the clutch a little to its biting point and the car wouldn't move. I let out the clutch a little more, gave it a little gas (2k RPM) and still not movement. Lowered revs to about 1200-ish and let out the clutch more and heard a pop noise. Back to neutral immediately. Try it again, pop. OK, this isn't working, maybe we can push the car, it's in neutral and should be able to just roll down generally (but there is snow). I have my parents push as I control the brakes. I get off the brakes, they push, nothing happens. So they stare at the wheel while I try again, reverse and pop. Wheels didn't turn. I engage the clutched a little more and give it 1500 RPMs, car pops and brakes free. My dad thinks ice froze between the pad and rotor (which is a high possibility). During this time I slipped the clutch for no more than twice the time I would to get into first gear normally (maybe 2 seconds total). I personally don't think this would cause damage, but possibly? It's also 25F out, but the engine is warm.

An hour later I drive to the pharmacy and the brake pressure (whenever I step on the brake pedal) is higher than normal. The ABS also likes to kick in with little brake applied (about 2-300 PSI, I think it's 3x100). I think this kind of confirmed the ice on brake pads issue. I slowly "bed" the brakes to try to slowly melt the ice until I can do about 4-500 PSI without ABS (maybe about 40% brake). Icy conditions with questionable traction would cause ABS to kick in regardless if I did anything higher.

Tonight, my dad wants Portillo's so I go drive up there. Drive up there, everything is fine and the brakes are normal again. Get to the parking lot and decide to back in. So I pull out, shift to reverse, it felt fine, I let out the clutch 10% (well before it bites) and instantly hear a whining noise. I can only describe it as the sound an EV makes when you're harder on the gas. The engine revs up around 1100 RPM, possibly 1200 and stays there. I immediately push the clutch back in, think WTF, and pull out of reverse into neutral. Reverse felt half-engaged when I placed it back into neutral (but felt like it engaged fully when I put it in reverse). I put the car back into neutral and everything works as normal. Get my food and have a normal, event-free drive back home.

My immediate thought is, clutch slipping (engine revs, no movement)? I didn't even reach the biting point, though so it would be unlikely. That said, I have no clue what the noise is, but this is only the first time I heard it too. Any ideas on what could be causing the sound.

As a side note, I've had some of the other more "classic" tranny issues from the Type R though. The infamous 2nd gear Vroop sound, though it happens when I downshift from 3 to 2, but has happened 1 to 2. I've also had the 4th gear pop out a couple times as well. Haven't had either happen in the last 7500 miles though (kind of corresponds with the time I got the accessory Type R shift knob installed; probably coincidence though). The Type R is at 15000 miles, had it since 22 miles.
