I would strongly advise against this based on my own personal experience. I once worked in a shop where I had connections and my buddy installed a remote start on my 99 Saturn SC2. It was manual of course. I had the car for a number of years to use as a beater while I drove my S2000 in nicer weather. Anyway, the keys were on the kitchen table in the winter time and my mom thought it was a good idea to warm up the car in the winter and pressed the remote start button. Dad had to move the car the night before and left it in reverse. The car started and drove itself through a neighbors fence, hit the next neighbors tree 100 yards away right next to his house. The car missed his house by about 2 feet. I am extremely lucky because of this tree. This could have costed hundreds of thousands of dollars <million dollar house, 69 Z28 in the garage> considering the amount of speed this car must have been going in reverse. The rear frame of the car was bent pretty bad also. Not a good idea. Unfortunately other people will think it can never happen to them and won't learn from my mistakes.

The way mine is set up, once you open the doors, the remote start will not start the car. You'll have to go through the remote start setup again.

Someone cut corners doing your install.
The safety measures were bypassed, any ethical installer would not have allowed your car to be released.

A proper setup procedure would not allow you to put the car into gear with remote start activated.

Yeah I don't doubt some corners were cut but it still happened. I'm sure technology has changed on these remote start systems over the past 10+ years to prevent this from happening because in theory these cars could be used as weapons. I remember signing a waiver at the time saying they weren't responsible if anything were to happen.

I checked with the shop that’s doing the install and they said that’s not the case with this. Push the lock button three times in your car starts then you get in and push the start button twice to the start mode and that will let you go on your way without having the car shut off. I made sure to ask them on the questiona before I made my decision.
Do u have the compustar remote start?

been looking in to this.
if you feel frustrated with all the proceedures and know how to leave it in neutral then apoarently it is possible to use an automatic remote starter by connecting nutral switch ti park wire on remote and solonoid the clutch switch in the start sequence.
this from a proffessional installer that would only install it this way for a contentious friend.

On a cold winter day, using a remote starter is the worst way to warm up an engine that you care about. You maximixe the amount of water and fuel you introduce to the crankcase and waste gas. Just get in and drive, taking it easy until the engine is fully up to temp.

I don't think any good mechanic would recommend a cold idle warm-up.

Remembering back to my Olds Cutlass, it took a loooong time to heat up the metal in its V8. The small engines are pretty warm within two miles. With seat heaters, it isn't a big deal.

No,I went with the Fortin Evo One so I could retain using the factory key fob.
Listen to this shutdown routine. Come to a stop put both brake and clutch down . Push ebrake(not to bad so far) get out and shut door . My beef is I cant grab anything out of trunk or car shuts off and I lose reservation mode. So frustrating. Any compustar guys have this same problem??

Other than a novelty item to show off to others, whats the benefit of remote start again?

Living in Florida you would not understand but if you live in a cold climate and get ready to go out to work on a morning when you have thick frost on your windshield it's nice to have it almost gone since your car has warmed up.I don't "show off" remote starter either. When it 10 Deg F in the morning it's nice to get in to a warm car. I've been driving for 35 years and have always let all my cars warm up on cold days and will continue to do so thanks to the technology of today.Getting in and only letting your car warm up for 30 seconds is going to waste gas also because the ECU is dumping more fuel into the engine to...…… warm it up.
