When there is a snow storm it's insane to drive. Stay of the road home. If you need to go you will go nowhere because of traffic we've seen this recently. How often do we really get those storms? Once or twice a year. I'm in NYC next door. Just snow tires will do it. You want 4 wheel drive go a hade get it. Subaru is very nice car with an old technology in it. They supposed to update Sti sometime in the future. I've heard also that type r will come 4 wheel drive in the future. I love my type r and I'm getting snow tires on black Friday

tires and driving skills matter more than drivetrain. FWD is great in the snow with proper tires and patience.

RWD vs AWD but same idea showing tires matter more. Get proper winter tires and laugh as you pass AWD cars and trucks

I can't speak much to snow driving since we don't get much of that here (and when we do the whole area basically shuts down), but I just got rid of my 2015 STI for a CTR and I can tell you that the CTR is a much better car overall. IMO the interior is nicer, has more creature comforts, rides better and just feels more special than the STI ever did. Not that the STI is a bad car by any means, I just think the CTR is better, especially as a daily.

I have recently been debating on wether i should trade my car for a STI. The reason being is i live in Jersey and we had our first snow day today and i realized how i would not dare take my Type R out in the snow. I use the car as a daily and i live on a big hill and was watching how easily the 4wheel drive cars handled the snow while any other cars fwd and rwd struggled tremendously. I always loved STIs before i saw the Type R announced back in 2016. I recently got my Type r this summer and it has 5.5k miles now. Any reasons i should stir away from the STIs. I love my Type R but from a long term standpoint a 4wheel drive car does make more sense and the STI is the only car id consider.
AWD vs FWD with snow tires are irrelevant if you drive carefully.

Did you not know the CTR was FWD before you purchased it? I don't get it, really. I see all these threads of people talking about trading their new cars for something else. Don't you people think about things before making such a huge purchase?

I mean, it's your money and you're free to do as you wish but you did post the question on a forum which means you're open to opinions so there's mine. Keep the CTR.

I like the STI. It was what I was looking at before I purchased the CTR.
I wouldn't trade it in for the current STI. At least wait until they finally ditch that EJ25 for something else.

To be fair CTR is in a unique situation in a sense that no one will let you test drive it before you buy. Of course, things like the type of drivetrain would be readily apparent upon research. Just sayin.

True I wasn’t able to test drove mine, just made sure the seating position was comfortable and knew what a FWD 300hp car meant. I think all these people selling it were expecting something amazing (it is just not what most amaricans want) or just wanted in on the hype not understanding this is a car to track not drag race.

Tires make a huge difference. I had an Evo X with OEM summer tires and I drove in it snow once because I wasn’t prepared and it was worse than my FWD GTI with all season tires. Get a set of snow tires, and you’ll be fine. The STI is approaching the tail end of production year. I wouldn’t get it now.
