No one knows. At least through MY19.
Lol, that’s what I thought when I bought my 2017 CTR and paid a good amount in ADM since I live in Southern California. Now I am hearing that dealerships are selling the CTR at MSRP. I should have just waited for the 2019 CTR since they most likely will be sold at MSRP. Never would have thought this car would be mass produced, it pretty much defeats the whole purpose of having badge numbers at this point lol.

It's all about profit....probably as long as they're making what enough to satisfy the shareholders.
Respectfully, there are plenty of examples, some very recent (Ford and the recent GT), of automakers intenionally limiting the production of a car whose demand isnt getting satisfied. Its not just about profits. Legacy automakers have a certain amount of equity tied to their name, Honda, Audii, Ford. Sometimes things are done to further their brand image, rather than making $$ off the car in question. The original ITRs are probably one of many examples of that.

Considering carmax of all places has like 10 for sale at any time with anywhere from 2k miles to 20k miles means rare is a joke.

If there is a demand and it keeps selling I don't see why Honda won't continue to make it.

Again, not saying the CTR won’t be made for decades, but the logic that because a car is in demand a manufacturer will pump them out is just too simple. Just... stop.

In my opinion the only reason that demand wasn't getting satisfied was because everyone thought this was a limited production car and they could either make money on them when they sold or at least break even. Now reality is setting in and prices will drop and in the next year or so they will be discounted like everything else on the lot. The people who overpaid and financed will be hurting the most.

If you consider the FD2/FN2 limited, then the Fk8 is even more so. Production numbers of the FD2 and FN2 (technically the same generation, just different models for different regions) reached nearly 30k in production. Also remember, that was without even making it to North or South America. So if we see 30k FK8s worldwide, they’ll be spread much thinner than previous generations. It’s not a unicorn by any means, but I’d say demand will always exceed the supply. Plenty of better reasons to love the car though.

As long as they can still make money. Since Civic Type R has been produce consistently for the rest of the world, the product cycle will likely mirrored the UK Civic Type R life cycle.
Agreed as long as honda can make money i think they will stay. The onlyy reason think they go away is qhen the dust settles and becomes more of a norm people wot be rushig out to buy one and then theres tons not sold because its old news. Then honda my limit them or pull of of US market. We may see gaps in producition as new platforms come out because the perfomence models always come last but thats it.

Generally - japanese manufacturers do this - they make a great new car then don't change much at all, update hardly anything - run that model into the ground - see the s2000, evo , wrx, gtr, countless others. It's what they do haha.

I don't see this car being that much of a collector car unfortunately. Time will tell but i really doubt that a car with a minimum 3 yr production run and about what 6-10k made per year will ever be highly collectible.

Will it hold it's value ? Yes i think so. Hopefully more so than my old gti did back in the early 2000's haha

What? Where did you get those numbers...? Production numbers have already exceeded 20,000 worldwide. They probably made more than 3,000 U.S. and 6,000 worldwide in 2017 alone.

Not according to the online registries some sites are doing. https://fk8registry.com/ shows that there was not a hard number where the models switched from 2017 to 2018. The first 2018 appears in their list at badge #05469, and slowly transitions from 2017 to 2018 over the next couple thousand badge numbers. By the time it gets into the mid 065xx's it is almost all 2018s, although in a quick scan I found a 2017 as high as 11179. So it would appear that 6000ish 2017 models is about correct. It looks like the production for 2018 is about triple that.

BTW: From what I recall in some magazine way back when, 6000 is also what Honda stated that they would produce for 2017.
