GTI/R 250/350 hp in 2020. Looks like Honda will have to follow.

While it's 'just numbers'... numbers drive folks to dealerships and help sell cars. If the GTI goes from it's current 210/220 hp variants, I think we'll see Honda have to give the SI a good bump.

Seems like a 2.0t could make it on par as well.

Great stuff. I'm not a VW fan, but if they bump up a baseline GTI that much, it will raise the bar for the competition to meet.

I see no way Honda would add more than maybe 5 hp to the 2019 refresh Si. At the beginning they were already saying how they kept the 1.5l at 205 hp so the engine will last 200k miles like previous generations. They will have to put a refreshed 1.5l or just upsize to a massively detuned 2liter from the type r to compete numbers wise which doesn’t make sense $$ for them when the Si even with a small hp bump will sell like hot cakes. They already have a great car and will most likely wait until next generation for a large increase in hp. Just my 0.02 cents.

I don't see them stretching a 1.5t to match, and a 2.0t in a 10th gen SI is also unlikely. Given a roughly 5-6 year generation... I do think we'll see a big bump in power from Gen 10 to 11 to stay competitive, while 9 and 10, regardless in the change in power delivery, peak power remained unchanged.

I'm curious how CAFE will come into play stateside. As great as the turbo K20 is, it's a bit thirsty and selling big numbers won't go so well. There's a 1.0t Honda makes in Civics over seas that could drive city mileage up, though I think hwy mileage is probably worse.

Those of us that have 1.5s have the biggest and best of the modest little L series engines, made for the Fits/Jazz cars. While I'm use there's some headroom and maintaining stock reliability, I think Honda would be doing well to match VW in a MK8... I think a bump to match the 220 the MK7s did would be more reasonable.

Hmm that's interesting and would be a great lease option. Honda should give the sport n/a the screamer the k20 wants to be.... that way I can bang my gears at 8000rpm like the olden days of Honda glory
