not only "performance" parts should be tested. Plus the metal material could aid in dissipating heat from the coolant, so in fact it would be a performance part. Also this part started life as an idea, drawing, then 3D Printed. Now it is an actual product that is being tested for quality, fit, size, look, etc as well as stress testing for holding pressure, handling heat, etc. Dont give a company crap for not rushing out a product but testing it instead.
While you’re free to have an opinion, don’t think that I need to share yours. It’s been 5 1/2 months to build a reservoir.

The fact that you consider this a performance part makes me laugh. Would be interested to see any data supporting this claim

Always appreciate your input Jason :D

Just wanted to chip in here, and also bump this thread up with an update. What this boils down to is everyone's take on the definition of what a performance part is. To us here at Mishimoto, performance isn't just about making the car faster, it's about improving every aspect of performance. Whether that be the the looks, or dependability or, of course, the speed. In this case we wanted to take some preventative measures and increase the durability of the expansion tank. These cars generate a TON of heat under the hood, and while it might not be exhibiting any signs of degradation right now, it will over time. Losing coolant is never an improvement on performance ;)

As for the timing, we prefer not to rush things, even for an expansion tank. While yes, it has been a few months since I kicked this thread off, plenty has happened here at Mishi HQ in that time. We had our tank scanned, modeled, a few prototypes made, and also kicked off production since then. Not to mention testing and development of other products like our oil cooler kit. We take our time with these things so you don't have to worry about it down the line :D

With that, make sure you head over to the Engineering Blog to get the full scoop on the expansion tank! We recently had our production sample come in, and installed, and also thrashed down the strip at Maple Grove Raceway yesterday:

Keep your eyes peeled for a presale coming soon on this tank! With our production just about finished up, we'll be launching the discounted sale shortly!

I really hope it's the other, red design with the M on it, and not this black design. I LOVED the other one.

Can't wait to hear/see more.
I’d want black I don’t like a flashy engine bay

We'll definitely have the red finish! After installing though, the placement of the M looked a little awkward so we took it off. We do intend on including a new Mishi filler cap though! ;)

Will we get the pre-sale this week? Hopefully
Not this week, but it's on the way! I'll keep you guys posted!

The black looks really slick in the bay

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to chime in here, and let you know that we'll have a presale link for this tank very soon! In fact, I spent most good amount of the day today getting some of our ducks in a row for that! I know that it's been a minute since we started this thread, but it's important to note that with these threads you're more or less watching the development in real time, which does take some time. Especially when it comes to expansion tanks full of complex bends and plenty of welding ;)

True, our oil cooler kit made it to presale first, but that's mostly because it's a little less involved from a manufacturing standpoint, which make sure you head over to our Oil Cooler thread to check some of the steps in our production!
