I got my windows tinted at ACJ in Hayward, too. But I paid $460 for Suntek CXP on all windows including the windshield... Did I get ripped off?

It was $460 total. It did seem high, and everyone who asks me how much I paid thinks I overpaid too. Oh well. This was in June of 2017, maybe that's why?

That could be why, I know they bought a rear hatchback glass piece to use as a template. Maybe you went before they had this meaning it would of been more work. I got Llumar CTX for $400

A little east from you guys but I got quotes from 3 places. Seems like it may be more expensive out here than you guys.
Cheapest film (somewhere in the range of $200-400 depending on if just back 3 or all 5)
Color Stable ($300-500)
Ceramic ($300-500)
Higher quality ceramic ($400-700)

The factory tint is 70% so anything put on the front is technically illegal though you most likely wouldn't get pulled over just for illegal tints but I'm sure the officer could give you a fix-it ticket if he/she pulled you over for something else.

Going to ACJ Window Tinting in Hayward this Saturday for tint
Hi Steve, Just curious, how your's turned out.
I wasn't supposed to get my CTR tinted,; the service team jumped the gun on my options early in the moring and had already started the tint so they finished which is fine. The back and 2 side windows are really dark, but look a litle wierd compared to driver and passsenger plus windshield look clear even though dealer said they are really still tinted albeit clear for uv etc protection (Perma plate pkg). When I ask the other mgr at dealer, he said they can't do the driver/pssng front 2 windows; CA law. But I mentioned at least 5 years ago I had my SI tinted and they "legally" tinted my front 2 witin the limit yet not clear. All these years it still looks clean and intact. I'm assuming the law changed? or detailers are now playing it safe with no tint or clear only in front windows..

So if they did your front windows, I'm assuming its CA legal still? Is there a new limit % for fronts now? If yours are legal, then I tempted to have mine tinted darker too. Suntek is a good brand as they also make ceramic coating I believe if not mistaken, that heals itself even. Sorry this is all new to me.
under $500 sound about the going trend.

To answer your question, front and passenger windows can be no darker than 70% VLT in CA. From what I understand, our cars come from the factory with the darkest legal tint possible for the front two windows which is why they can't/won't add additional tint to them. The rear passenger windows and the rear view window have no legal restrictions, I believe those could be completely opaque if you wanted to go that dark. Usually, independent shops will install whatever tint you ask for but are required to disclose to you that your tint is below the legal limit if you choose to go darker (to cover their bases).
