New(ish) 2018 Civic Touring sedan owner here. I guess I usually have my music (or podcasts) pretty loud that I haven't noticed this until today, when I was driving in silence. What is that "hybrid"-like whirring sound I hear when braking/slowing down in traffic? I owned a Camry Hybrid 7 or 8 years ago and it reminds of that hybrid electric whir sound you'd here when accelerating a low speed. Not a complaint. I kinda like the sound. I'm just wondering what the source is in the Civic.

I know exactly what you are talking about but I have no idea. Makes me feel like I am in a futuristic car or something.
I kinda thought it was something to do with the heat/air. Maybe not. But your right every time I stop at a stop sign I hear it.

I think I hear the same think in my Civic Si. Sounds like something spooling up. I always thought it was either a cooling fan or the fuel pump or something like that. It's normal so I don't really pay it any mind.

Is it something like the parking brake sound?
I've never noticed anything spooling when stopping or slowing down.

Nope. Like the smooth sound of an electric golf cart. It sounds a little space-age'y. Anyway, I think we have the answer up thread.

I'm more curious to know if your best friend is Patsy Stone?

I just listened more carefully at my '99 Honda Civic EX and I have a sound similar to what you described.

Now I'm a little disappointed that it might just be that same sound and that it's not something that will be different/cooler. To me it's just whatever (if it's the same thing).

I think it's the turbo spooling down. Get the gas hard, then come to a quick stop (like moving from stopsign to stopsign) and you'll hear it every time.
