Based upon all the performance of the Type R I went to the dealership seriously considering trading my Si in for the Type R, got some numbers from them, etc. but I was just standing there looking at the Type R and I was like who the fuk designed the outside of this thing?

yeah dude, i couldnt see myself driving one everyday. id love the performance but looks are also very important to me. i always love seeing my si coupe. i check her out often. wash her every week wax her every month.

i couldnt look at the ctr everyday, it would give me anxiety, and i would constantly think to myself "what the fuck have i done". when i see them on the road i get this gross feeling, it like looking at an even uglier subaru or something.

My comment on the Type R are not about the appearance or even of the mechanics. I just worry about having a car that is always the less desirable version of the Type R, kind of similar to the relationship between the v6 and v8 mustangs of yester year. One thing that helps is that the internals of the Type R aren’t that much stronger than the L15B7 (hope I remember our engine correctly) so any real power mods will require engine building for both options, though the long term limit for the 2.0T may be higher than in the Si but I can’t say for certain more does the industry seem to have pushed either block to its limit.

The only part of the type r that I really wish I could steal is the braking and suspension setup. We are really limited right now on what is available to us on the Si for both. There’s no real middle ground between a full BBK $$$ and what we have right now. Upgraded pads but that’s about it. And suspension is the same.

If I could do it all over again I probably would have got a 17 Accord Sport Sedan in 6 speed.

Less electronics, n/a motor probably last longer, engineer actually sounds better, more room.

Oh well.

I agree with you guys so much on this. The performance of the type r is incredible, but I would feel very juvenile driving it. Maybe I’m just too self-conscious or whatever, but I feel a car with that performance should be as sexy to look at as it is to drive. I feel like the type R would get tiring to look at after awhile, but idk:dunno:Which is why instead of opting for the type r, I went with the Si sedan, and will purchase an ND Miata sometime next year with the savings of not getting the type r:thumbsup:

I am very happy with my Hatchback, but it is definitely not faster than my 15 si coupe. I got the hatch for the fuel economy and the extra space which the Si did not provide, although the fuel economy isn't that crazy of a difference, it was mostly the extra space that I wanted, my coupe days were coming to an end but I did not want to go the SUV route. All in all, very happy so far.
Excellent, good choice. Yeah I wouldn't want to do a big SUV either. I think the Hatchback was the smart choice.

I’d compare the Si’s relationship to the type r more like WRX:STI or focus ST:focus RS. The V6 mustangs of yesteryear weren’t meant for performance, they were the economy/rental version of the V8.

To me, the STI isn’t worth the premium over the wrx since their performance numbers are so close. The RS is way too expensive to justify spending that much (for me personally) on a car that isn’t an outright sports car. But to each his own, some would disagree with me I’m sure.

The type r, while performing much better than the Si, is going a very different route. And some don’t think the 10K difference (or more by the time markup and OTD is calculated) is worth it since priorities are all different. There’s an article floating around I think that superstreet wrote about a guy with a red Si sedan that didn’t put a whole lot of money into that performs better than a CTR:dunno:

Edit: also I don’t think the Si is any less desirable, since the Si and type r are very different cars. Some people want a coupe or sedan and don’t like hatchbacks.

Yeah, I'm confused about that. EcoBoost? Sure. GT with that 460 HP coyote V8? No way a bump to 280 wtq makes the Si faster.
Not even close, the 2019 GT does 0-60 under 4 seconds. I have a TSP stage 1 tuned Si and it's not even close. That dude is smoking crack.

Once you drive the type r, you really don't care what it looks like.
well that may be true for some but not me. i had test driven a golf R. it was super fast and handled amazing. but i still thought it was ugly as fuck.

if something is going to be qyick and have the performance, i feel its looks should match its speed. the current ctr to me looks disgusting.

I think you are taking it all personal. the GT feels like pig weights 600 pounds more, and the torque curve comes in later on the GT.

I've driven them both and it doesn't feel much faster to me.

so, for you, would you say that even with the tsp tune, it didnt boost the si's performance enough for you to be satisfied with it?
