So you just bought a car at the dealership. What all do you do before you leave the lot?

How big is the car's subwoofer, by the way? I'm thinking of getting an upgraded one, and if it could fit inside that cabinet I suppose that would be optimal to save trunk space and make it look clean. Any other aftermarket subs that could fit in there and really sound any better (for rock music)?
Ctrmofo has an in depth write up for all the speakers. If I find the link I will link it here but I think the rear sub is 8" and can be replaced but the grill is pretty shallow so an agressive driver may result in the cone contacting the cover grill. Ctrmofo also worked with (a third party or his own company...not sure exactly) someone to fabricate a spacer ring to give the grill another outward inch of space for the cone to move without making contact with the grill.

Above anything else, get the car covered on your insurance policy before leaving the lot. I owned my 07' Si for 5 minutes, took it out and got totaled from behind by a jeep who snapped my axle cruising 65 in a 35 construction zone. If I didn't make that insurance call before starting the engine I would have been screwed.

I test drove my car and extremely thoroughly and extensively looked over it multiple times before I purchased it because I am extremely picky.
After I paid for it, I just did a quick look over everything again before driving home in it.

I apologized to my salesman and told him I was extremely picky, and said I only needed a few minutes. We were chatting when I was looking over everything and he offered an interesting piece of information.

He said we don't typically have any issues with these ones (made in Canada), but there is often things that come up with the Mexico made ones. He said it's not uncommon for them to take delivery of vehicles from one of the Mexico plants, only to realize door panels and other interior panels have been ripped off to retrieve the drugs that were hidden there for the trip over the boarder. Thought that was interesting, as the reason I didn't buy a new Mazda a few weeks earlier was because they couldn't find me a Japan made one (only Mexico).

Definitely go through all of it. When I bought my 18 type r, I looked the car over pretty good but, for whatever reason, I didnt even look in the hatch area. On the drive home I heard rattling in the hatch area so right when I got it home, I looked in the hatch. I noticed the carpet where the sub woofer is was all cut up, the speaker grill was damaged, and there were missing screws on the speaker itself. I suppose maybe the car was getting detailed by the back gate of the dealer and the detailer stepped away and some hoodlum saw an opportunity for snatch and run. Anyhow, I called the dealer right away and they fixed it but they could have played hard ball and refused. I got lucky I guess so definitely check everything out.

Update: added pics of the issue

Curious question, was your car by any chance assembled in Mexico? Not joking,

Taking care of insurance is a good idea, but you wouldn't have been completely screwed, unless you didn't have any existing car insurance at the time. If you did, your new car was insured at least for some days, up to a month, depending on your location and your insurance company.

"Most insurance companies provide automatic coverage for new purchases equal to the broadest coverage you have on your current or other cars. In other words, if you already have a car insurance policy in effect and you purchase a new vehicle, that policy will cover you for up to ? days." (says the internet)

So you should be careful if you have old existing cars with limited (cheaper) policies, because your new car will be covered automatically only to this level. I always get rid of the comprehensive coverage for older cars.

When I bought my civicx the salesdude asked me for my insurance, which he has to do. I assumed he notified them of my new car purchase, and I even asked him if he would.
But he apparently didn't, so I drove happily for almost 6 months while my trade-in was on my policy instead of the new car.

I then asked the insurance agent for refund of the premiums I paid for my trade-in vehicle, just curious if they would refund it. I just wanted to see if they firmly assert that they would have honored my claims on the new car if I had an accident. While the agent said they "would take care of me," I didn't quite trust them because they also agreed to give me a refund if the dealer confirms I sold them my trade-in at the time of purchase. I never pursued that refund.

Most dealers/salespeople will have a short "delivery" presentation. A chance to go over the cars features, pair your phone etc. As mentioned, make sure your car is on your insurance. Adjust mirrors and seat.. and get on out of there!

Vin is showing Swindon as the manufacturer plant so I am assuming Swindon assembly as well. How can I tell for sure? I'm probably fine but would like to confirm

^ That thing has too much writing for me to snoop around. Does it say build date on there as well? I know apparently it's somewhere on the door frame or something, but knowing me I won't be able to find it on mine.

Looks like mine was assembled in Swindon so I suppose drug mule is out. I guess they really were just after the woofer.

Oh come on its only like...300 words. Plus I find it interesting to read.
If you really want to, just use a VIN decoder. It works just the same way.
