I'm sorry if anyone considers this a duplicate post, there are similar threads but they don't really have the same situation.

My old car died last Thurday, 04 Hyundai Tiburon, the frame rusted through and it will be 3k+ to repair so I guess its just that time to find a replacement. I want a Civic Sport CVT Hatch in polished metal or I would take whatever the fancy name for blue is. A dealership just had one shipped in from a few hundred miles away (Indiana to WV) refusing to tell me the price before they ordered it or it got here.

Well, its here now, did a test drive and set down to hear the price. I was expecting something in the upper $23,000 range after taxes basing it on some research on forums this one and another. Well, what the price was initially was $24,080.00 give or take plus 6% sales tax or just over $25,500 out the door. When they realized I really would walk out they only came down $300 so IDK. It would come with nicer floor mats and that sort of thing, a window tint, 2 years bumper to bumper, oil changes for 2 years, and the general stuff.

I still feel its high, but there are legitimately no sports in my area, I'm going to talk to one more dealer tomorrow that claims they could get one in within a day or two but I don't know if they are just saying that. They are a larger dealership so I'm hoping for a volume sale.

I just need some advice, what did you pay for a sport, please clarify if it was before or after tax (before preferably), does this sound acceptable or not.

Go on cars.com, select everything you want, search within 250 miles, email every dealership that has the configuration you want, and basically forward around the communication between dealerships and have them haggle each other down. You do it all from the comfort of your home these days.

I got my car Jan 2017 for $24100 OTD after waiting 3 months to have it shipped straight from the factory so I had no wiggle room on price. Now you should be able to get one at invoice. Maybe someone that works at a dealership on this forum will chime in on how they are selling, but I would imagine you could be paying at or under invoice

Definitely use cars.com and cargurus.com to find a Sport hatch and shop. I bought my Sport Touring HB two months ago at invoice ($26,594 which included destination, so technically under invoice) + 7% sales tax, tag, title and doc fees. That particular dealer had quoted me full MSRP until I started shopping around. His excuse was "we only have one". Fortunately for me, his top competitor had 14 on the the lot and I was willing to walk away (via email). I did all the negotiation over email/phone a week after I had test driven the car, that way I remained in control.

Invoice for the Sport Hatch should be around $20,952 plus $895 destination. I'd set that as your high point before tax, tag, title, doc fees. Several dealers in my area have them listed between $20,499 - $22,500 before TTT/Doc. Only the dealers who have the $700-900 doc fees have them listed at MSRP.

That price is defenitely too high. Sport hatch has all the LX amenities except it has a littke more power and the sport rims/look so its not like you're paying for features. I agree with everyone saying you shoukd use a website (i use cargurus) to find the best price on the car you want.

I bought mine during my local dealerships black Friday sale. I wanted the sport model but the only one they had was the floor model that had over 500 test drive miles on it. I pointed out all the faint scratches in the paint, told them I was worried it was driven hard before break in point, really broke the dudes balls over this car haha and I didn't buy any warranty but they threw in the all weather mats, trunk mat, and window tint was already on it. OTD I paid 22,000 and they threw in two free oil changes.
