so if you don't take short trips in cold weather it's a non-issue? is this a simple call the dealer and have them check? or will my maintenance minder/check engine flash if there's an issue

i don't drive much, had the car for almost 1 year and still under 7K miles. try and extend the trips i do take to allow for engine/oil warm up.

For the 1,5 L engine. There is a post on that issue on the forum.

Arcane link ;
" Honda added, “The updates will allow the engine to warm up faster, improving fuel combustion and reducing oil dilution.”

The operation to fix the CR-Vs will take place in early November, with Civic to follow."
by warm up faster they just mean peg the motor at 7500 at start up right?

Will this fix be for all Civics?

I haven't noticed any difference in the rpm at start up after the ecu update

I just figured out recently by looking at my oil level every day, that longer idling when the engine is cold apparently contributes to more fuel going in the oil. So I now avoid idling initially for too long. I newer idle to warm up or cool down the car interior anyway, so no problem.

The time difference between warming up while driving and warming up while idling is quite significant. There is just to little gas being burned and too little friction. That's good for gas mileage while idling, but the engine takes forever to warm up. People who idle too long before a short trip or when it's cold, may think idling will help this issue, but it actually seems to be the main factor making it worse.

I'm not sure though I will need or want this update. I don't see any problem with the amount of gas in the oil I get.

The solution long-term will be to put a new dipstick in all Civics with this problem making the notches wider, so when you will it, it will be within range.
that was actually the first solution proposed in China by Honda. Government and owners strongly opposed to this for obvious reasons and we ended up with the recall ;)

if you take care to monitor oil temp/short trips and plan to keep the car up until warranty expires is this likely a non-issue? i love my hatch sport ... hopefully it's not "too good to be true". such a blast to drive.
