Hey everyone - I'm thinking about signing up for my first track day and want to get track day insurance.

I got 2 quotes for ~$300 for my 2018 Type R with $5K of "modifications" (based on a 15% deductible).

Is this reasonable? I thought it would be cheaper than that, but maybe I'm just wrong.

I got quotes from both Lockton and Haggerty. Is there a less expensive provider I should consider?

I've used Hagerty, using $36000 as value and 15% deductable and I got $132 for the premium which seems reasonable. But my car is a stock car. $300 seems like a lot more though.

Yeah that is strange. I put $37K for the car + $5K for mods. Maybe I'll just list the stock value of the car instead.

I imagine a "modded" car skews towards greater risk of accident (driver style, risk aversion etc) vs a bone stock car. Plus, you are paying to cover those mods. Imho $300 sounds cheap... but if it all goes sideways, $15% of 40K = $6000+300 = $6300 oop.

And like any ins policy, age, driving record, where you live etc all come into the pricing of a premium

Getting the quote doesn't need most of that info though.
Agreed... I was just thinking of other variables.. Perhaps day of the week the event is? The club running the event? The track (a place like Watkins glen where all you can hit is guardrail vs Willow Springs where there is nothing but open space) might affect rates.

I am curious about this too, if different track or club will effect it. I've had 2 quotes and bought 1 so far since I decided against going to another track day earlier but they are at 2 different local track and one was a SCCA TNiA event but the quotes were both pretty similar(Gingerman and Grattan).
